Safety Instructions
• The product is intended for private, non-commercial
use only.
• Keep the product out of reach of young children. Accidental
swallowing can lead to choking. Consult a doctor
immediately if you suspect that the product has been
swallowed.
• Protect the product from dirt, moisture and overheating, and
only use it in a dry environment.
• Do not use the product in the immediate vicinity of heaters
or other heat sources or in direct sunlight.
• Do not drop the product and do not expose it to any major
shocks.
• Do not attempt to service or repair the product yourself.
Leave any and all service work to qualified experts.
• Do not open the device or continue to operate it if it
becomes damaged.
• Dispose of packaging material immediately according to
locally applicable regulations.
• Do not modify the product in any way. Doing so voids the
warranty.
Note
• For a maximum service life, protect the fingerprint sensor
from dirt and scratches.
• Under no circumstance does Hama GmbH & Co KG
accept liability for loss of data stored on data storage
media.
• To avoid unintentional data loss, you should regularly
make backup copies to more than one data medium.
• If you use the product over a very long period of time, it
is possible that data can no longer be read, written or
deleted.
Warning
• The Hama USB storage devices must never be
disconnected from the computer or notebook while data
is being transferred! Your data could be lost.

2. Disconnecting
Safely remove the device by carrying out the required
procedure for your particular operating system.
If you do not do this, data may be lost!
3. System Requirements
• USB Type A:

Windows 10 / 8 / 7 / Vista / XP
Note – Mac
• Fingerprint recognition and the unlocking of the secure
partition are only possible if an administrator has been
registered under Windows and a secure partition has
been set up (Point 6, et seqq.).
• The administration software does not run under MacOS.
4. Using the ProtectionKey and the administration
software
• You can administer up to six fingerprints with the
ProtectionKey. At least one administrator fingerprint must
have been registered.
• Plug the Hama ProtectionKey into an unused USB
connection on your computer/notebook.
• The ProtectionKey is automatically recognised and the
associated CD drive (on which the software can be found) is
automatically shown.
• Run the software by double-clicking the ProtectionKey
drive symbol. (If you are using the ProtectionKey for the
first time, continue to Point 6.1 'Register administrator and
password'.)
• Place a registered finger with light and even pressure onto
the fingerprint sensor. The status LED flashes blue during
authentication.
• Once the fingerprint has been successfully authenticated,
access to the secure partition on the ProtectionKey is
enabled.
• To create or administer a user, start the ProtectionKey's
administration software by clicking the Hama fingerprint
icon. (This is not necessary to gain access to the secure
partition.)
