4. CROSSOVER ADJUTMENTS

4.1 SELECTING THE OPERATION MODE

This RODEK 5-channel amplifier features an integrated
electronic crossover. You can select two different operati-
on modes, by setting to slide switch for each channel pair
to the desired function.
The active crossover enables you to either highpass or
lowpass the incoming music signal, or to bypass the cros-
sover section. Depending on the speaker system connec-
ted and driven by the amp, you must now set the three slide
switches as follows:
- - Select HIGHPASS (HP), when the speaker system
connected to 1/2CH or 3/4CH speaker outputs are compo-
nent- or coaxial models.
- - Select LOWPASS (LP) in case of a subwoofer system
connected to CH5.
Note: This makes sure, that each speaker system will only
be working in its optimum frequency range.
- - If you want to amplify the full spectrum of the music sig-
nal, select FULL. In such a case, the necessary filtering
must be controlled by an external device, such as a head-
unit featuring a DSP based crossover, or an external elec-
tronic crossover respectively.
4.2 HIGHPASS FREQUENCY
ADJUSTMENT
- - Before you start adjusting the highpass frequency on
this amplifier, set all tone controls (i.e. Bass, Treble),
fader/balance and loudness on your head unit to their res-
pective neutral or center position.
The chart below, features recommended high-pass cross-
over frequency settings for coaxial- and component spea-
ker systems of different sizes. Individually adjust the high-
pass crossover frequency for each channel pair driving
satellites speaker systems accordingly. The most impor-
tant factor to be considered is the reproduction of mid-bass
frequencies and the resulting mechanical power-handling
of the speaker system. This highpass crossover frequency
setting is therefore always a compromise. Try to set a HP
crossover point, that will suit your personal listening prefe-
rences and – at the same time – also considers the mecha-
nical cone excursion capabilities of your speakers best.
