3.4 OPERATION

CONNECTING THE ABX-3
1. Connect the ABX-3 to an AIREA MASTER (1).
2. Connect the AIREA-NET outputs (6) to other AIREA de-
vices.
3. Connect the FOHHN-NET output (7) to a device that has
a FOHHN DSP (e.g. a PS-9 ACTIVE SUB).
4. Connect the analog outputs (11) to an analog device
from another manufacturer.
5. Connect digital audio (AES/EBU) to the AIREA MASTER.
6. Connect the FOHHN network to the AIREA MASTER
(FOHHN-NET) using an NA-11 FOHHN-NET USB-AD-
APTER or NA-3 FOHHN-NET ETHERNET ADAPTER.
7. Connect the NA-11 or NA-3 to a Windows PC.
8. Switch on the AIREA MASTER.
9. Start FOHHN AUDIO SOFT.
10. The ABX-3 will appear in FOHHN AUDIO SOFT.

DANGER
Because there is a large amount of current flowing though the
AIREA-NET outputs, cabling changes should only be made when the
AIREA MASTER is switched off.
Connecting an AIREA end device to an active AIREA-NET output could
result in damage to both the connectors and the cable due to high cur-
rent.
The pin configurations for AIREA-NET connectors can be found in
Chapter 9.
CAUTION
To avoid "pops" when powering up, always plug cables into devices
when they are switched off. Then power up the signal chain from its
start (microphones etc) through to its end (amplifiers/loudspeakers).
Reverse the process when switching off.

3.5 FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

The ABX-3 is a high quality, 2-channel digital to analog
(D/A) convertor with its own integrated FOHHN DSP.
It is equipped with an AIREA-NET input (RJ-45 In socket)
for use in AIREA networks. At this input, the AES/EBU signal
is converted to an analog output signal and further trans-
mitted via two balanced analog outputs, which have male
XLR connectors.
Together with other AIREA-NET devices, the ABX-3 is sup-
plied with an operating voltage of 48 V via its AIREA-NET
input. No AIREA-NET loudspeakers can be connected to
this AIREA-NET input.
The ABX-3 can also be used for connecting further AIREA
devices via its two AIREA-NET outputs (RJ-45 Out sockets).
These carry both the AES/EBU signal and the FOHHN-NET
control signals. The latter can also be transmitted via a
separate FOHHN-NET output.
The two AIREA-NET outputs together can only emit the pow-
er of the corresponding AIREA MASTER: max 200 W RMS.
In FOHHN AUDIO SOFT, the ABX-3 can be directly se-
lected. Here, as with a Master module, signal processing
functions such as Delay or EQ can be selected.
