3. ABOUT THE PRODUCT

GENERAL INFORMATION

3.1
The ABX-3 has been designed as an interface for the
FOHHN AIREA System: This digital to analog converter
with powerful, integrated FOHHN DSPs enables active
loudspeakers that do not have their own FOHHN DSPs to
be connected into the AIREA System. The ABX-3 can be
placed in the signal path before a group of these spea-
kers, acting as their Master and providing additional si-
gnal processing functions such as EQ and Delay. Additional
AIREA-NET outputs enable the ABX-3 to further transmit
the signals. These signals can also be split before trans-
mission.
The AIREA System is an intelligent, active loudspeaker
concept that simultaneously functions as a flexible digi-
tal audio network system. AIREA
loped for the realisation of high-quality, versatile and
future-oriented sound reinforcement applications. The
AIREA System includes state-of-the-art loudspeakers with
integrated digital amplifiers and DSP technology, as well
as a master module with digital inputs and outputs.
Wiring is simply done using a conventional network cable. A
fully digital signal path throughout the entire AIREA System
means there is no loss in quality as a result of AD/DA con-
version or distribution loss.
The AIREA MASTER module forms the heart of the system.
It provides the power, digital audio signals and control si-
gnals for any active AIREA DSP loudspeakers that are
connected. Up to 16/32 active DSP loudspeakers can be
connected to each AIREA MASTER module. Using FOHHN
AUDIO SOFT, each of these DSP loudspeakers can be in-
dividually controlled and their routing, volume levels and
sound characteristics separately adjusted. If an ABX-3 di-
gital to analog converter is connected into the signal path
before a stack of loudspeakers without DSPs, the unit can
be directly selected in the software and set up as the spea-
kers' Master, providing additional signal processing func-
tions.
The use of a single cable for wiring makes AIREA
superior to conventional active systems. As well as enabling
several loudspeakers to be "daisy chained", it also means
that distances of up to 100 m can be effortlessly covered,
allowing the sound, delay and dynamic settings of each
loudspeaker to be individually configured.
Signal inputs conform to the AES/EBU standard, ma-
king AIREA extremely versatile and open for the future:

FOHHN converters not only enable simple connections to

analogue audio sources, but also allow connectivity with
audio protocols such as MADI, Cobranet, Dante or Ether-
sound.
3.2 DEFINITIONS
AIREA SYSTEM
An AIREA System comprises one or more AIREA MASTER
modules, along with one or more active DSP loudspeakers
or other AIREA end devices.
AIREA MASTER
The AIREA MASTER is the heart of the AIREA System.
AIREA END DEVICE
An AIREA End Device is connected to the AIREA MASTER
and is powered by it.
