8. Commissioning

• Suspend the barrel pump at the edge of the rain barrel with the holding bracket (13) so that it is suspended in the
water.
• Plug the mains plug into a proper mains socket with a protective ground contact. This must be an IP44 mains socket
for operation in the outdoor area.
The mains plug must only be plugged into the mains socket when dry. There is danger to life from electric
shock otherwise!
• If the float switch is placed correctly, the barrel pump will switch on and start taking in water and transporting it
through the exit opening.
If no water is conveyed, there is still air in the barrel pump. You may speed up priming by moving the barrel pump
back and forth a little.
If the shut-off valve is closed, open it. The same applies to any connected garden syringe. Only this way
can air escape from the barrel pump and the hose for water to be pumped in.
• The barrel pump switches off automatically if the float switch drops. For this, the cable of the float switch must be
fastened correctly on the cable holder (6) as described in chapter 7.
The barrel pump can also be operated manually in that the float switch is fastened to the telescopic tube
via the holding clip (10) (see figure in chapter 6). The same applies if the float switch is clipped as close as
possible to the cable holder (6), so that it cannot move anymore and so that it cannot sink down when the
water level drops.
The barrel pump pressure pump must never be operated unsupervised then, because the barrel pump will
not switch off if there is no water, and too-long running dry would damage the pump.
• The shut-off valve (2) permits brief interruption of the water transport as in a conventional water tap (e.g. if you want
to move a connected sprinkler).
However, the barrel pump continues to work with the shut-off valve closed (this also applies if, for example,
you close the connected garden syringe).
If the water supply is interrupted for more than 1 minute, pull the mains plug from the socket to take the
barrel pump out of operation.
The barrel pump pressure must not work against the closed pressure side for more than 5 minutes to
prevent damage. The water present in the barrel pump will heat up even during these 5 minutes. When the
pressure side is opened, hot water will escape; danger of scalding/injury!
