Installation and operating instructions
Electronic room temperature controller
with Triac change over output
RTRt-E 525 85
Caution 1 !
This device must be installed by a qualified electrician,
according to the wiring diagram on the device and in
compliance with all applicable safety regulations.
Appropriate installation measures must be taken to
achieve the requirements of protection class II. This
device, is used to control the temperature only in dry
rooms, under normal environmental conditions.
This electronic device conforms to EN 60730, It is an "in-
dependently mounted control" and works according to op-
erating principle 1C.
1. Applications
The electronic thermostat with Triac output can be
used for:
• Control of hot water heating systems in conjunction
with electrothermal actuators normally closed or
normally open such as hot water, convector or
floor heating systems.
• Water based floor heating systems in conjunction
with connection strips which work with heat/cool
signals from thermostat
• Electric convector, floor, ceiling and storage heat-
ing systems connected via contactor
• Night storage heating
• Air Conditioning equipment (cooling only)
Features
• Temperature set-back
• Versions for AC 230V or AC 24V
• With change over contact, thus suitable for both,
thermal actuators normally open or thermal ac-
tuators normally closed
• Remote sensor optional
• High life expectancy and noiseless due to
electronic load interruptor
2. Function description
Comfort temperature will be set by means of exter-
nally visible setting knob. Controller contact switches
the associated heat source until the set temperature
is reached.
3 Automatic mode (via external timer)
The adjusted temperature at the setting knob will be
reduced by approx. 3 °C when contact at terminal 8 is
closed, see note 4d.
Heat / cool demand to the controller
Via the incorporated Triac the heat / cool source will
be switched in the form of pulses of varying length
(PWM). The length of the pulses depends on the dif-
ference between set and actual room temperature.
The sum of pulse and pause times will be ~10
Minutes.
If there are large temperature differences, the con-
troller will switch ON or OFF permanently, e.g. when
changing over to temperature set-back mode.
Valve protection J2 (according to variant)
This function prevents valve sticking e. g. during sum-
mer time (inclusion of particles). This protective function
is activated every day for ~ 3 Min. It is repeated every
24 hours, calculated from the last power on.
Jumper J2:
open
no valve protection (as delivered condition)
closed
with valve protection
3. Installation
The controller should be arranged in a place within
the room which:
• is easily accessible for operation
• is away from curtains, cupboards, shelves, etc.
• enables free air circulation
• is out of direct sunligh
• is free from draughts (e.g. opening of windows and
doors)
• is not affected directly by the source of heat
• is not located on an external wall
• is located approx. 1,5 m above floor level
Mounting directly on conduit box or with adapter
frame ARA 1 E.
Electric connection
Warning! Disconnect electric circuit from supply.
Proceed as follows:
• pull off temperature setting knob
• open screw
• remove housing cover
• make connection in compliance with wiring dia-
gram (see housing cover).
• note notes
Remote Sensor (optional)
• Connect external remote sensor to terminals 11 and
12 according to wiring diagram (inside cover)
• A connected sensor will be recognised automati-
cally.
• In case of sensor error, the internal sensor will be
used.
The sensor can be extended to max. 50 m by means
of a cable suitable for mains voltage. Do not lay the
sensor cable in parallel to mains cables.
Caution! Sensor cables carry operating voltage.
4. Important notes
a) The Triac is not protected. Overload or short-circuit
of the load will damage the Triac.
b) The disconnection of the load takes place at
current-zero, so that a contactor can be directly
controlled without any additional steps.
c) During the ON period, the Triac is permanently on,
there is no phase section.
d) If used for "cooling only" (cooling device on termi-
nal 3) a temperature set up is not possible. In this
case do not use terminal 8.
