Tips and notes
a) General
• On the enclosed CD, you will find the manual in English provided by the manufacturer.
• Never disconnect the USB connection between the docking station and computer during opera-
tion, as this may lead to data loss.
• Never use the docking station without the enclosed power adapter.
b) Connecting a HDMI, DVI or VGA Monitor
• Connect your monitor to the corresponding video output of the docking station.
A VGA monitor can be connected at the DVI output of the docking station using the
provided DVI/VGA adapter.
You can also connect two monitors to the docking station (one monitor with HDMI con-
nection and one monitor with DVI connection or VGA connection using the provided
adapter).
• After the driver installation and the connection to the computer, the operating system should
recognize the second monitor automatically. For example, in Windows, the mouse pointer can
be moved from the first monitor to the second one. Also, windows on the first monitor can be
moved to the second monitor.
Depending on what mode you have set in the display settings of the driver software, a second
monitor can be used as an extension of the first monitor, or the monitors show the same display
content.
During start up/boot up of the computer, there is no image on the monitor connected to
the docking station, since at this point the driver is not yet loaded.
An image will appear only after the operating system and the driver have finished load-
ing.
• To change the monitor allocations, you can change the Windows graphic settings (e. g. with
Windows 7, click on an unused area of the desktop with the right mouse button and select
"screen resolution") or even use the setting options of the docking station's software (display
link functions).
For example, the location of the second monitor can be changed (whether it is allocated to the
left or the right of the first monitor), or you can adjust the desired resolution.
• Since the image content is transferred via USB3.0, there may be delays in the display if the
image content changes quickly. This is observed mostly when a very high resolution has been
selected or videos are being played.
• The graphics output of the docking station cannot be used for games, as it is not suitable for 3D
operation.
Since all data between the computer and docking station is transferred via a USB3.0 port, the
use of graphics output, network port, external sound card and USB3.0/USB2.0 hub have an im-
pact on each other. If you transfer large data amounts via the network connection or USB3.0
hub, this will reduce the speed of the graphics output (e.g. moving windows on the desktop gets
slower, or similar).
• Never set a higher resolution/display refresh rate (or a combination of both values) than sup-
ported by the monitor. Observe the user manual of the monitor for this.
• If an analogue VGA monitor is operated on the docking station, the following applies: The higher
the resolution adjusted for the graphics output of the docking station, the higher the quality of
the VGA cable (and the shorter the length) used should be. Otherwise, there might be shadow
formation at the vertical edges or the edges of windows and texts may become blurred.
Please note that the image quality is generally lower via an analogue VGA output than with a
digital monitor connection.
For this reason, it is better to use a DVI or HDMI connection to the monitor, if possible.
c) Network connection
• If there is a network or system administrator who is responsible for your network (for example
in a larger company), let him set up the connection and the configuration.
• The RJ45 network port on the docking station is to be connected e. g. to your router or network
switch using a fully wired network cable with a 1:1 connection.
• The specified maximum data transfer rate of 1000MBit (gigabit LAN), or about 125MByte/s, is
never reached in practical operation. This is caused by the transmission method used, trans-
mission errors, other devices in the network and so on; another reason is the maximum transfer
rate on the USB3.0 port (the data for the graphic output is transferred via the same USB port; the
same is true for the external sound card and the USB hub in the docking station).
• With Windows, it might take some time until the PCs appear on the network.
When you turn on the computer, after a few seconds, when Windows is loaded on all comput-
ers, you will be able to access all the other PCs immediately.
If, after a few minutes, it is still not possible to access other PCs, check any firewall and/or virus
scanner settings that may be used.
Naturally, the access permissions also have to be set accordingly, if you are using an operating
system that offers such features.
Consult the applicable operating instructions, when using a network printer or other devices in
the network.
There are numerous causes explaining why a network connection is not successful. Please
refer to the appropriate specialist literature or to a specialist technician.
• If you are not using a DHCP Server (e.g. integrated in all DSL routers), you should assign an IP
address to each PC.
Set the first computer e.g. to 192.168.1.1, the second to 192.168.1.2, etc. The first three numbers
must be the same for all computers; the last number can be between 1 and 254.
The "subnet mask" has to be set to 255.255.255.0 for all the computers in the network.
Please keep in mind that an IP address (such as 192.168.1.1) can only be used once in the net-
work. When you set your router to the IP address 192.168.1.1, no other device in the network can
use this IP address!
d) USB3.0 and USB2.0 hub
• The 2 USB3.0 ports and the 4 USB2.0 ports of the integrated USB hub may be used for any USB
device, e.g. for a USB webcam, USB mouse or USB keyboard.
The USB3.0 hub is compatible with USB2.0/1.1. You can also connect slower devices.
• The USB3.0 port marked with a lightning symbol serves as a charging port. That means that you
can charge e.g. a smartphone here. The output current is max. 1.5 A.
However, for this purpose, the USB connection between the PC and docking station must be
broken (or the PC must be switched off), since the smartphone (or another mobile device, like a
tablet computer) assumes an existing standard USB connection and thus the charging current
is reduced.
e) External sound card
One stereo jack bushing is used as headset output, the other one as a connection for microphones.
For this purpose, observe the symbols next to the sockets. Do not swap round the connectors,
otherwise neither the headset, nor the microphone operates.
If the computer to which the docking station is connected has its own sound card,
Windows normally automatically activates the ports on the docking station when the
latter is connected to the computer and switched on.
In the audio properties of the Windows system control, the audio input/microphone in-
put used and the audio output can be selected, so that you can switch between internal
and external sound cards.
Maintenance and cleaning
The product is maintenance-free. Repair or maintenance work must be carried out by a specialist.
You can use a clean, dry, soft cloth for cleaning. Dust can be very easily removed with a soft, clean
brush and a vacuum cleaner.
Do not use aggressive, chemical or scouring cleaning agents, as this may lead to discolouration or
changes in the material on the surface.
Disposal
The product must not be disposed of in the household waste.
Dispose of the product at the end of its serviceable life in accordance with the current
statutory requirements; e.g. return it to any suitable collection point.
