MAINTENANCE

Descaling

In time, the substances which the appliance removes from
your drinking water tend to clog the membrane and will
eventually reduce the flow of pure water from the tap. To
prolong the service life of the membrane, it has to be
descaled periodically.
If you notice that the flow rate from the tap is tending to
decrease, you will need to run the descaling procedure,
below. How often you will need to do this will depend on
your particular water supply, especially on its levels of
calcium and magnesium ("hardness", see table, right), iron,
manganese and micro-organisms.
You cannot use the water purifier during the descaling
procedure, which lasts about 30 minutes.
The descaling procedure should be run when the flow
of purified water from the RO 400 is reduced.
If you do not notice any change, then run the descaling
procedure according to the table on the right.
You can order the descaling agent from your dealer (see
"Service and spare parts")
(Even with regular descaling, the maximum flow of purified
water from the appliance will decrease gradually on account
of the normal properties of the membrane. When you
notice that the flow is about half of what it was when the
membrane was new, contact your dealer to have the
membrane replaced.)
The descaling product must be kept out of the
reach of children.
Wash your hands after use.
1 Mix 200 grams (roughly 250 ml) of the descaling agent
with 2 litres lukewarm water in a bucket. Stir until the
powder has dissolved, see Fig. A.
2 Unplug the appliance from the mains. Remove filter
and filter
from the filter holders as in "replacing the
filter", points 2-5, and screw the empty holders back on
again. (Do not throw away the filters as they can be re-
used), see fig. B.
3 Allow the purified water from the RO 400 to be flushed
away down the reject water outlet for the first
10 minutes of the operating cycle by loosening the
purified water hose from any other appliance or item of
ancillary equipment, and running it into the reject water
outlet via the airlock, see fig. C on the next page.
Water containing the descaling agent will be
produced. This water may not be fed into any
ancillary equipment or any other appliance.
