6.1 Calibration for measurements made directly
at the place where the sound level is to be
monitored
1) Set up the measuring microphone at the place
where the sound level is to be monitored. If re -
quired, extend the connection cable with a BNC
connection cable.
2) Call the calibration window with the menu item
Program
Calibrate or with the key F2.
3) Insert the programme CD into the CD player of the
audio system and play title No. 2 (1 kHz sinusoidal
tone). However, if pink noise is reproduced when
playing title No. 2, select title No. 3
4) Adjust the volume of the audio system so that the
measuring box will display a value between 85 and
95 dB. Previous experience has shown that the
value will vary by 0.1– 0.2 dB. Register the aver-
age value.
Important: From then on, do not change the posi-
tion of the microphone and the adjustments of the
sound card any more, and do not change the vol-
ume of the system before the calibration has been
completed.
5) Click Calibrate and wait for the programme to re -
quest an input.
6) In the input window, enter the registered value of
the measuring box accurate to the decimal point.
Then confirm the input.
7) Close the calibration window. If the position of the
microphone is changed, calibrate the system once
again.
6.2 Calibration for measurements not made
directly at the place where the sound level is
to be monitored
1) Set up the measuring microphone at the place
where the sound level is to be monitored. If re -
quired, extend the connection cable with a BNC
connection cable.
2) Call the calibration window with the menu item
Program
Calibrate or with the key F2.
3) Insert the programme CD into the CD player of the
audio system and play title No. 1 (pink noise). How-
ever, if no sound or an indefinable noise is repro-
duced when playing title No. 1, select title No. 2
4) Adjust the volume of the audio system so that the
measuring box will display a value between 85 and
95 dB. Previous experience has shown that the
value will vary by 0.1– 0.2 dB. Register the aver-
age value.

Important: Always ensure that during the ordinary
course of the event there is nothing between the
speaker and the microphone which was not there
during the calibration, e. g. there must be no per-
sons in this area. This will affect the measurement,
and the system will show a volume which is too low.
Note: Do not place the microphone at a distance
of less than 1 m from a speaker, otherwise the sys-
tem may easily be overloaded. Also see Clipping
