Basic functions of the DAC 8 DSD

The basic functions of the DAC 8 DSD, described in this chapter are always available,
regardless of the selected source.
Charging the remote control handset
The FM8 is fitted with an internal rechargeable battery (Li-Ion battery)
which cannot be removed or replaced by the user.
The FM8 remote control is designed for use with universal chargers with
USB sockets, in accordance with the EU's wish to avoid electrical scrap
and the EU Directive 2014/53/EU. Any existing universal USB charger or
any computer with a USB port with 5V output voltage and at least 500
mA (0.5A) output current can be used for charging.
Connect the remote control to a suitable charger using the USB cable
supplied in the set.
The LED on the remote control handset flashes red when charging is in
progress. The LED lights a solid red when the battery is fully charged.
The FM8 cannot be used to control the DAC 8 DSD when the battery is
on charge.

Source switching

The source buttons on the device and also the remote control handset
have dual functions. The LED above the corresponding button on the
DAC 8 DSD indicates which source is selected.
For example, if the LED above the  button lights blue, then the
optical input "OPT" is selected; if the LED lights red, then the BNC input
is active.
If you want to select the digital input to which you have connected the
source device you wish to play, briefly press - once or twice - the
source buttons , ,  or  on the device, or
the , ,  or  button on the remote control
handset.
As soon as the source device is delivering digital music data, the
DAC 8 DSD automatically sets itself up to match the format and
sampling rate of the signal; you can then listen to the music signal.

Pre amplifier function

The DAC 8 DSD can also be operated without a preamplifier, i.e. with
active loudspeakers or power amplifiers connected directly to it. For
'Stand-alone' mode the device features a high-quality volume control.
