1. Application

The Ex-TP 20 is a temperature measuring
device for point-contacting surface measu-
rements in industrial applications in areas
with an increased risk of explosion for
zones 2, 1 and 0, as well as for zones 22,
21, 20 and mining zones M2 and M1 accor-
ding to IEC/CENELEC (ISSeP certification).

2. Safety Advice

Safe operation of the equipment is maintai-
ned providing that all instructions and war-
nings contained in this manual are fully
observed.
Please read these operating
instructions very carefully before
using the unit!
In case of any doubt
(e.g. due to translation and/or printing
errors) the original German language
version should be referred to.

3. Faults and Damage

If there is any reason to suspect that the
safety of the unit has been affected then it
must be immediately withdrawn from use
and precautionary measures taken in order
to prevent any further use of in the
Ex-hazardous area. It is recommended that
the equipment be then sent back to the
manufacturers for testing.
The safety and integrity of the unit may
be compromised by, for example:
• visible damage is evident on the housing.
• the unit has been subjected to excessive loads for

which it is not designed.
• the unit has been improperly stored.
• the unit has been damaged in transit.
• inscriptions or lettering on the unit are illegible.
• malfunctions occur.
• obvious measuring inaccuracies have occurred.
• no more measurements are possible with the device.
• permitted tolerances or threshold values have been
exceeded.

4. Safety Regulations

The use of this product meets the require-
ments of the regulations providing that the
user observes and applies the requirements
as laid down in the regulations and that
improper and incorrect use of the unit is
avoided.
The following safety regulations must be
complied with:
- The unit must not be opened within the Ex-hazar-
dous area.
- The battery must only be charged outside of the
Ex-hazardous area.
- Additional or spare batteries must not be carried in
the Ex-area.
- Only type-approved batteries may be used.
- Avoid using the device in aggressive acidic or alka-
line solutions.
- It must be ensured that all relevant safety instruc-
tions for operation of the equipment and for the
safety of the person operating the equipment are
followed in the area which is at increased risk of
explosion.
- The device must NOT be used on live components,
i.e. components carrying a voltage.
