• Wrought iron is also very suitable, also offers good heat conduction and very good heat
storage, is also somewhat lighter than cast iron, but does not distribute the heat quite as
well as cast iron and also heats up relatively slowly. Wrought iron is very resilient and can
therefore also be heated at high power levels.
• Enamelled cookware has a steel core to which the enamel layer has been applied and
baked as corrosion protection. It is therefore suitable for all-round use and is an excellent
choice for cookware in particular. Enamelled cookware is very resilient and can therefore
also be used at high power levels.
• Stainless steel (if the iron content of the alloy is high enough) is suitable for most
applications and offers very good heat retention. It is also comparatively light. Both heat
conduction and heat distribution can be described as adequate at best. The load capacity
of stainless steel is only moderately high, only very large pots with a solid base can work
effectively, but then they can also withstand high power levels.
• Capsule bases (aka composit or multi-layer) are most commonly found in frying pans,
where aluminium and stainless steel parts are combined. The stainless steel is heated,
transfers the heat to the aluminium and this distributes the heat very quickly and evenly
in the base of the pan (much better than iron or steel can). The disadvantages are heat
storage and energy efficiency. Capsule bases should never be loaded at full power because
the amount of magnetisable material is comparatively small and the stainless steel needs
time to transfer the heat energy to the aluminium.
Note on the diameter of the cookware: All cookware with a base diameter of less than
120 mm or more than 230 mm is not suitable. However, due to the different load capacity
caused by the magnetisability, even thin stainless steel bases with a diameter of 130 or
140 mm can cause a safety shutdown at a high power level, while an enamel pan with
a diameter of only 110 mm, for example, will work without any problems. Ultimately, the
amount of magnetisable material available is always decisive. It should also be noted that
magnetisability decreases with increasing temperature.
Note on the diameter of the induction coil: Due to ever stricter legal requirements
(especially in the area of electromagnetic compatibility of kitchen appliances), modern
induction hobs have relatively small induction coils with a diameter of 17 to 18 cm. The
energy density with which the cookware is then loaded is therefore enormous. Thin stainless
steel bases or light capsule bases in particular can therefore quickly reach their energy limit.
It can happen, for example, that the cookware works without any problems at at the 4
amp power limittion, but the hob issues the 'pan detection' error message
power level.
Important notes
• Noise may occur when using induction-compatible cooking vessels due to the design
or material composition (alloy) of these cooking vessels. There are no defects in the
appliance. Whirring, cracking or even humming often occurs with capsule bases or at the
power limit of the cookware if the eddy currents cause minimal vibrations in the base of
the cookware or if the (different) material components expand at different rates.
• Always keep the glass ceramic plate and the base of the cookware clean and dry.
• Do not leave any food wrapped in aluminium foil, cutlery, pot lids or other metal objects
on the glass ceramic hob, as these can absorb the residual heat from the glass ceramic
hob and therefore become hot.
• If cracks form in the glass ceramic plate, the function is usually not impaired, but safe
operation can no longer be guaranteed because liquid such as boiling water can enter
the inside of the appliance through the cracks. If the surface is cracked or broken, the
appliance must be disconnected from the mains immediately in order to avoid a possible
electric shock! In this case, please contact our service department immediately. Contact
details can be found on the last page of this manual.
