SURFACE LATCH INSTRUCTIONS
BEFORE INSTALLATION FAMILIARISE YOURSELF WITH THE
OPERATION AND PROGRAMMING OF THE LOCK BEING FITTED
TO THE SURFACE LATCH AND CHECK THE SURFACE LATCH
BOX CONTENTS.
STEP 1
Positioning the Surface Latch and Marking the Fixing Holes.
The Surface Latch mounting plate is used as the template to mark
the required fixing holes on the gate or door.
Holding the mounting plate and latch body to the inside face of the
door mark the top fixing hole, ensuring the latch bolt will project
sufficiently into the keep or strike when fitted.
Remove the mounting plate and latch body.
The four allen bolts securing the Surface Latch to the mounting plate
should be removed to separate the Surface Latch body from the
mounting plate.
At this stage, if required, the latch can be reversed to suit an
outswing gate or door.
1
Hold the mounting plate against the inside face of the door
positioning the mounting plate to align with the top hole already
marked. Now mark the bottom fixing hole, and 8mm (

1
Remove the Two Small Fixing Screws Located
on the Back of the Surface Latch Body.
Carefully remove the thin backing plate from the latch body,
and lift out the latch (with spring attached) flipping the latch
bolt over to suit an outswing door, and reassemble.

The CL100/CL160/CL200/CL2000 Range will utilise the two
inner fixing holes. The CL400 Range will utilise the outer fixing
hole positions. See exploded drawing below.
Keeping the drill level and square to the door, prepare the below
holes.

Apply the seal to the back of the front plate and hold to the door
over the prepared holes.
Place the mounting plate to the inside of the door face and secure
with the two fixing bolts.
Ensure the lock is vertical before final tightening.

STEP 3
Fitting the Spindle and Latch Body.

) to 12mm (
/
) maximum should

be engaging into the spindle adaptor in the latch body. This can be
adjusted using the packing pieces supplied.
Fit the spindle adaptor into the back of the Surface Latch body,
ensuring the two points face each other vertically. The spindle
needs to be positioned to suit the hand of the door, below.

Pass the spindle through the mounting plate at the desired angle,
with the short 'T' section engaged into the back of the keypad.
Now offer up the Surface Latch, with latch bolt positioned according
to the door hand, using a flat screwdriver in-between the latch
and mounting plate to assist locating the spindle where needed.
Secure with the four Surface Latch allen bolts.
Leaving the door open, test the lock thoroughly from both sides
to ensure latch retracts and returns without bind adjusting where
required.
Note: The latch bolt doesn't retract fully into the Surface Latch body.
STEP 4
Installing the Surface Keep Plate.
Position the Surface Keep plate on the gate post/frame so that
it lines up with the latch bolt.
Close the door an ensure the latch bolt enters the aperture easily
and is held without too much 'play'.
Packing pieces can be used if required. Once satisfied secure
with the two screws provided.
