+7 dB (Red lamp)
This indicator
lights at +7 dB above ''0"' VU. At
normal
recording,
VU
Meter response
is usually
accurate,
but when
pulsive signals enter, such as
signals
from
percussion
instruments,
etc., the re-
sponse
is slow
and
therefore
lower
than
actual
volume is registered. +7 dB peak level indicator acts
as a warning device by lighting at excessive actual
input. Because for recording with the least possible
noise, it is advantageous to keep the recording level
as high as possible not to exceed the level at which
distortion
occurs
due to excessive input, for best
recording results, the level range in which this +7 dB
light flickers at largest input parts only is most ideal.

Meanwhile,
if the +3 dB lamp
does not light, it
indicates insufficient input level: in which case, the
Input Control should be regulated in a way to light
this +3 dB lamp occasionally as well as to make the
maximum impulsive input +7 dB.
