The SpiroCom has three functions integrated in one wireless mask mounted unit:
1. Team talk
2. Long distance radio activation
3. Voice Projection Unit (VPU)
1.1 TEAm TALk
The Team talk is a voice activated, full duplex, short range voice communication within
a team of fire fighters. All voice communication from any team member is sent to all
members in one team, without the need to push any button.
The range is approximately 100 meters in free line of sight (outdoors), indoor range will
depend heavily on the building structure.
One team is using one specific channel, "Group Number", and this communication is
not transmitted externally but only shared by the specific team members. The number
of users in one team is unlimited but a maximum of four team members can speak
simultaneously.
1.2 LONG DISTANCE RADIO ACTIVATION
To obtain external radio communication only one long distance radio is needed
within the team [Fig. 1]. It is possible for any of the SpiroCom units to access the long
distance radio, unless the radio already is being used. To access the long distance
radio the Push to Talk (PTT) button is pushed on the SpiroCom unit.
The team talk function is automatically switched off during incoming transmission from
a long distance radio.
This function requires a SpiroCom Radio Adaptor connected to the long distance radio.
This adaptor is connected to the long distance radio [Fig 3] and transmitting wireless to
the mask mounted unit.
1.3 VOICE PROjECTION uNIT (VPu) [FIG. 2, C]
The VPU amplifies the sound from the user and projects it to the surroundings using an
external speaker. The voice of the wearer is projected to victims and rescue personnel not
wearing a SpiroCom unit.
1.4 COmPONENTS OF ThE SPIROCOm

The microphone is placed inside the external speech diaphragm. The microphone
registers speech from the user for all functions of the SpiroCom unit. The breathing noise
of the wearer is removed as far as possible using filtering technology.
It is advisable to speak clearly and firmly for good voice transmission.
Ear spEakEr [Fig 2, a]
The ear speaker projects the sound to the user. The speaker can be adjusted to make it fit
well with all face types. It can be bent up or down and angled towards or away from the
mask.
