@) Display (7-segment LEDs)
Dual display with two 3-digit readouts for output voltage
and output current. On the display on the left side of the
instrument the voltage and current readings for termi-
nals () are indicated. The corresponding values for the
terminals (6) are indicated on the right side of the dis-
play.

Pushbutton for switching the display (left side with (2)/
right side with @) from voltage to current reading or vice
versa. With the pushbuttons (2) or (3) depressed the cur-
rents supplied from the terminals @) or @) are displayed
with a resolution of 1 mA. With the pushbuttons @) or @
released the voltage across the terminals 4 or 6 is dis-
played with a resolution of 0.1V
(@)/@) Output 0 - 20 V (4mm banana sockets)
Output terminals for 4 mm banana plugs or cable con-
nection. The output voltages are short circuit protected.
(5) Output +5V (Fixed)
Output terminals for 4mm banana plugs or cable con-
nection for the fixed +5V output. The output voltage is
short circuit protected by means of a 0.8A fuse.
(Instruments carrying series numbers in excess of 1501
are electronically short circuit protected.)
(@/43 Coarse (variable potentiometer)
Variable potentiometer for the coarse setting of the out-
put voltages for the left side (7) and the right side @3 out-
put terminals respectively. Adjustment range 0-20V.

Variable potentiometer for current limit setting of the
left side (8) or the right side 42 voltage source respecti-
vely. Settings are made with the trimming potentiome-
ters located behind the frontpanel by means of a srew-
driver. Adjustment range 10 mA - 400 mA.
(9)/41) Fine (variable potentiometer)
Variable potentiometer for the fine settings of the out-
put voltages for the left side (4) or the right side (6) output
terminals respectively. Adjustment range approxima-
tely 1.4 V.

Pushbutton for switching off the 3 output voltages of
the HM 8040 simultaneously without switching off the
mainframe. The switch should not be activated if one of
the voltages supplied is in current limit mode, to avoid
excessive current load for the switch itself.
(4 Overload indicators
Two LEDs for overload indication of one of the output
voltages e.g. current limiting or overheating. In case of
overheating or output currents in excess of the speci-
fied values the corresponding LED for the output vol-
tage is lit.
