Installation- and Operation Instruction
Meßgaskühler / Sample gas cooler EGK 2 Ex
The wire cross-section must be adapted to the rated current.
Fusing has to be made according to the type examination certificate (see appendices).
The status contact may be connected to an intrinsically safe input, whose requirements have to be kept.
Capacity and inductivity of the contact are about zero, therefore only the parameters of the used cable have
to be taken into account.
Connecting the cooler:
Remove the four screws on the edges of the black electronic housing's front.
Remove the cover carefully: The controls are fixed with wires to the electronic.
Turn the cover and place it on top of the cooler. The cables should have no mechanical tension.
Introduce the cable for the status signal through the left and the cable for the power supply through
the middle cable fitting on the front.
Connect the fittings following the drawing 47/027-08-3 in the appendix. Strip the single cores only
for 5 mm (0.2 in). Do not use ferrules.
Regard especially the grounding connection of the mains supply: On the threaded bolt right down in
the housing all single parts are already mounted: Loosen the nut, remove the nut, the disks and the
ring cable socket. Fix the ring cable socket on the grounding lead of the mains cable. Now place
disks and ring cable socket in the following order, disk – ring cable socket – disk and fasten now the
nut.
Close the housing under consideration of the following points:
Inside the connection housing of the sample gas cooler there should be no impurity, dirt or humidity.
Close the housing dust and water tight (Take care, that no wires are squeezed). When closing the
housing use the original sealing. Unused openings must be closed with Atex approved stoppers. Fi-
nally tighten all fittings.
Connect the potential equalization of the cooler ( threaded bolt below the electric housing ) to the lo-
cal potential. Electrical current should not flow via this connection.

Testing the isolation resistance
Damage to the device in case of insulation testing
Do not proceed insulation tests with high voltage to the device as a whole.
The device is equipped with extensive EMC protection. If insulation tests are carried out the electronic filter
devices will be damaged. All necessary tests have been carried out for all concerned groups of components
at the factory (test voltage 1 kV or 1,5 kV respectively, depending on the device).
If you wish to carry out the insulation test by yourself, please test only separate groups of components.
