USAGE
Always check the AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield assembly components before use. Manually adjust the
adaptors to ensure secure attachment. Do not over tighten the adaptors as this can prevent the faceshield from being
adjusted and positioned correctly.
• Inspect adaptors regularly for cracks or damage. Ensure adaptors are locked into helmet attachment slots before each use.
• Check EVO
helmet attachment slots and inspect for cracks that could allow the adaptor to slip out.
®
• Ensure lower chinguard fittings are tightened before use.
• Grip the faceshield by the chinguard to adjust. Never raise or lower using the side shields.
The AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield can only offer protection when worn in the deployed/working position.
The faceshield should not be worn in the raised position when working on or in the vicinity of live parts.
The faceshield is designed, tested and approved for use with EVO
5 safety helmets, providing a high level of protection by
®
positioning the visor close to the face while maintaining sufficient clearance for comfortable working. Before entering the
hazard area, make sure that no parts of the face are in contact with the inner shield surface.
The operating temperature shall be between -10°C and 45°C.
The AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield is Arc Protection Class 2 and VLT (Visible Light Transmittance) Class 2
product in accordance with GS-ET-29. For a VLT class 2 product, additional illumination is required to achieve a minimum
illumination level of 30 lux behind the visor. Check the illumination level behind the visor before use.
NOTE: As workplace environments vary, users should check the level of additional lighting required to use the shield.
Artificial illumination, especially illumination coming from fluorescent or LED lamps together with the tinting of the shield can
affect colour recognition abilities.
To make sure that colours can be recognised well enough to allow safe working, we recommend carrying out the following
procedure in the workplace under local illumination conditions:
1. Collect multiple pieces of cable with the same cables coding used in the workplace;
2. Locate a safe area with the same illumination level (type and intensity) as the work area;
3. Clean the eye protector and inspect for damage following the user instructions;
4. Fit and adjust the faceshield to the deployed/working position following the user instructions;
5. Quickly sort the cable pieces while wearing the faceshield in the deployed/working position.
If difficulties are encountered in coding differentiation or the cables are sorted incorrectly, this shows the illumination level is
insufficient and carrying out work in this area could increase the risk of an incident.
NOTE: The AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield is designed to protect the eyes and face against the mechanical
and thermal hazards of an arc flash. The AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield does not substitute prescription
glasses, other eye and face protectors, respiratory protection, or additional PPE required for sufficient protection in
accordance with the hazard and risk assessment and safety legislation applicable to the workplace. Ensure that all PPE to
be worn together is compatible.
NOTE: The use of safety spectacles underneath the visor is advised and may be mandatory due to national legislation or company policy.
NOTE: An arc flash / electrical fault arc of high incident energy may cause permanent impairment of sight or other serious
personal injury. Appropriate workplace controls should be implemented to minimise the risk of injury. PPE is a final
barrier in case other control measures fail. Consider selecting protective equipment with a higher performance level to
provide protection in the case of a real accident generating a higher level of energy than calculated in the hazard and risk
assessment. The AFP-25 Helmet Mounted Arc Flash Faceshield described in this document is an Arc Protection Class 2
product. Do not carry out live work in conditions that require a higher Arc Protection Class.
