1. Foreword
These operating instructions must be read carefully by
every user prior to initial commissioning. Non-
competent or unqualified persons must be instructed
in the assembly and operation of the pulley block using
the operating instructions. The operating instructions
contain important notes on how to operate the hoist
safely, correctly and profitably. Observing them helps to
avoid dangers, to minimize repair costs and down-time,
and to increase the reliability and life expectancy of the
hoist. These operating instructions must always be
available at the place where the hoist is used. As well as
the operating instructions and the accident prevention
regulations applicable in the country of use and at the
place of installation, accepted rules for working safely
and correctly must also be observed.
2. Intended use
• The device may be used for lifting, pulling and
lashing.
• The working load limit (WLL) quoted on the device is
the maximum load, and must not be exceeded.
• Ensure that the actual loads are not below the
minimum loads (values in the table in section 8).
RHINO lever hoist 10/2018 / Subject to technical changes!
2
• Lifting or transporting loads must be avoided
whenever anybody is in the area made hazardous by
the load.
• Entering the area under a suspended load is forbidden
(Fig 1).
• Loads must not be left in a raised or high-tension
condition over a long period or without supervision.
• The operative must only initiate movement of the load
after he has first convinced himself that the load is
properly attached and that there is nobody in the
hazardous area.
• Avoid parallel shear pull, i.e. a lateral load on the
housing or on the upper or lower hook. Always lift,
tighten or pull in a straight line between the two hooks
(fig. 5).
• When suspending the device, the operative must
ensure that the lever hoist can be operated in such a
way that the operative is not at risk from the device
itself, from the means of support or from the load.
• The attachment points must have an adequate
load-bearing capacity.
• Always suspend the load in the centre (base) of the
hook. Do not load the hook tip. This applies to both
the upper and lower loading hooks (fig. 9).
• The equipment can operate at an environmental
temperature between - 25 °C and +40 °C. If
conditions are extreme, consult the manufacturer.
• Provided certain preconditions are observed, the
device can be used as a climbing hoist. Contact the
manufacturer before using it in this way! When used
in this way it is necessary to ensure that the chain
inlet operates properly, particularly when lowering.
If the chain jams at the inlet this can cause the brake
to release and so allow the load to fall! When used in
this way, a jam must be detected immediately or
must be immediately detectable by the operative.
To release the jam, put the lever into the lift (up)
position, and raise the load a bit. As soon as the jam
has been cleared, it is possible to continue lowering
after putting the control lever into the lower (down)
position.
• RHINO lever hoists are only approved for manual
operation; powered operation is forbidden.
• The device must be stored in a dry place with the
brake closed.
Caution: Check the brake for icing at temperatures
below 0 °C.
• It is essential that the accident prevention and safety
regulations for manually operated lifting gear
applicable in the country or region where the device is
employed are observed.
• Use for the intended purpose includes following the
inspection and servicing specifications in addition to
observing the operating instructions.
• The hoist must immediately be taken out of operation
if it malfunctions.
