Remove any loose parts from the battery compartment.
2. R emove the special battery label to activate the battery
(failure to do this will reduce the battery life).
3. Place the battery in the battery compartment.
4. C onnect the positive (+ red) lead from the battery to
the positive (+) terminal inside the lid of the energizer.
5. C onnect the negative (- black) lead from the battery to
the negative (-) terminal inside the lid of the energizer.
6. Replace the lid of the energizer.
Note: T he battery must always be in the upright position.
Connecting to an external battery
A special battery connection cable is required in order to connect the energizer to a 12 V
external battery (Ref. 159101).
Warning!
• E nsure that the battery is disconnected from the energizer before connecting the battery to
any mains-operated battery charging device. Failure to observe this precaution could result in
damage to the energizer and possible electrocution.
• W hen a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sheathed cord is used to connect the energizer to an external
battery, the equipment must be located in a shelter and must not be handled when the ambient
temperature is below +5 °C.

Warning! Batteries contain harmful chemicals and when used incorrectly, may cause injury.
Observe the guidelines for battery care, maintenance and safety in this manual and in the
documentation supplied with your battery.
Charging a 12 V battery
Warning!
• O nly a 12 V battery (Type lead-acid) can be recharged.
• D o not attempt to recharge a non-rechargeable battery.
• W hen recharging a battery, ensure that there is adequate ventilation to allow gases to disperse.
Regular recharging of the battery is essential. Use a suitably rated battery charger and refer to
the battery manufacturer's recommendations.
1. A ttach the positive (+) battery charger lead to the positive terminal of the battery, and the
negative (–) battery charger lead to the negative terminal on the battery.
2. I nsert the battery charger's input power plug into a mains or line socket and turn on the
power supply.
