Protections against other causes
Protection system is also designed for other causes
that could damage the tool and allows the tool to stop
automatically. Take all the following steps to clear the
causes, when the tool has been brought to a temporary
halt or stop in operation.
1.
Turn the tool off, and then turn it on again to restart.
2.
Charge the battery(ies) or replace it/them with
recharged battery(ies).
3.
Let the tool and battery(ies) cool down.
If no improvement can be found by restoring protection
system, then contact your local Makita Service Center.
Indicating the remaining battery capacity
Press the check button on the battery cartridge to indi-
cate the remaining battery capacity. The indicator lamps
light up for a few seconds.

NOTE: Depending on the conditions of use and the
ambient temperature, the indication may differ slightly
from the actual capacity.
NOTE: The first (far left) indicator lamp will blink when
the battery protection system works.
Selecting the cutting action

This tool can be operated with an orbital or a straight
line cutting action.
To change the cutting action, turn the lever to the
desired cutting action position. Refer to the table to
select the appropriate cutting action.

For cutting iron pipes,
cast iron pipes,
aluminum, stainless
steel and plastics.
NOTE: Orbital action means that the saw blade
moves up and down, and back and forth at the same
time. This increases the efficiency of cutting.

Speed adjusting dial

The strokes per minute can be adjusted just by turning
the speed adjusting dial. This can be done even while
the tool is running. The dial is marked 1 (lowest speed)
to 5 (full speed). Turn the speed adjusting dial between
1 and 5 according to your work.
Refer to the table to select the proper speed for the workpiece
to be cut. However, the appropriate application may differ with
the shape and hardness of the workpiece. In general, orbital
cutting action is suitable for soft materials.
NOTE: Orbital cutting action is suitable for most soft mate-
rials such as wood, however, sometimes not, according to
the shape or the hardness of the workpiece, etc.

NOTE: If the tool is operated continuously at low
speeds for a long period of time, the operation life of
the motor will be reduced.
NOTE: The speed adjusting dial can be turned only
as far as 5 and back to 1. Do not force it past 5 or 1,
or the speed adjusting function may no longer work.
Switch action
CAUTION:
Before installing the battery car-
tridge into the tool, always check to see that the
switch trigger actuates properly and returns to
the "OFF" position when released.
CAUTION:
When not operating the tool,
depress the lock-off button from A side to lock the
switch trigger in the OFF position.

To prevent the switch trigger from accidentally pulled,
the lock-off button is provided.
To start the tool, depress the lock-off button from B side
and pull the switch trigger.
Tool speed is increased by increasing pressure on the
switch trigger. Release the switch trigger to stop. After
use, always press in the lock-off button from A side.
