5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Change thermalfuse
WARNING: Contact qualified servicepersonnel!
Warning: Disconnect fixture from mains, and allow
hot lamp to cool down for at least 30minutes!
Remove the 8 screwsholdingthetop coverofthe Varyscan andremove it.
Cleantheunit(seechapter 4.1).
Loosen the nut which holdstheignitorandplacethe ignitor outsidethecasewithout
removingthecables.The thermal fuseitlocated in the cablewhichrunsfromballast
to thefuse.
Unsolderthecablefromfuseandremovecable bypulling it backwards.Remove the
silicone fabrichose from the thermalfuseandunsolderitfromthecable.Installthe
new thermal fuse, butmakesure nottooverheatitduringthe processofsoldering.
Useacontinuitytesterto check the continuity and coatthecable andthe thermalfuse
again withthefabric hose. Thefabric hose is most important, becausethethermal
fuse is live.
ReassembletheVaryscan.
Test thefantoensureitisworking.Adefective fanisthemostcommonreasonfor
adefective thermal fuse.
5.2 Change eprom (software)
Warning: Disconnect fixture from mains, and allow
hot lamp to cool down for at least 30minutes!
Remove the circuit board cover whichislocatedbehind themirrorholder,byloosening
the screws. Comparethecircuitboard with thediagram on page 26 to locate theeprom.
Remove the eprom verycarefullyfromthesocketandinserttheneweprom.Thesmall
markontheepromandtheepromsocketindicates therightpositionoftheeprom.Make
sure both marksmatch. Checkthepinscontact.
Reassemblethecoverofthecircuitboard andtestthe Varyscans functions.
