Congratulations on your new grain mill from Schnitzer. We at Schnitzer have been building
household grain mills for over 50 years.
You have bought a quality product that we hope you will enjoy for a long time.
Please observe the following instructions for handling and caring for the mill.
You will find further information on our website.

Cleaning and maintenance

The mill is maintenance-free when used properly. The mill cleans itself by the grinding process.
If the mill is not in constant use, we still recommend cleaning the millstones after use.
To do this, remove the wing nut and the washer. Hold the millstone firmly and turn the crank to the left until you
can remove the millstone. Note: There is still a hexagon nut in the rotating stone. Now you can clean both
stones with a hard brush. Please never clean the grinding stones when they are damp or wet.
If the grinding mechanism becomes clogged due to damp grinding
material, empty the mill. Then coarsely grind some wheat that has
previously been dried in the oven at 50°C for 10-15 min.
If there is still no improvement, clean the grinding stones.

installation
and operation
1.
Place the grain container in which the grinder
is integrated on the flour container and press
the two parts together lightly. Be careful to
leave a small gap between the grain container
and the flour container.
2.
Fill the grain into the grain container in the
funnel opening around the crank (maximum
up to approx. 1 cm below the crossbar).
3.
Ideally, take the mill between your knees and
turn the crank clockwise to the right.
The ground grain is collected in the flour
container, which can be removed by moving it
back and forth.
4.
You can change the fineness of the ground
grain by removing the flour container and
turning the wing nut below the rotating stone.
Turning the nut to the left makes the ground
grain coarser, turning it to the right makes it
finer. The mill should be empty if you want to
make it finer.
Grinding capacity
The grinding capacity at 80 rpm is 30 g of grist/minute.
These are ideal values. The milling capacity depends on the moisture content of the grain and also on the
type of grain.
The Ligno Petit is suitable for milling all cereals of wheat grain size and smaller.
Seeds containing oil, nuts, etc. cannot be ground, as this would cause the grinding stones to stick.
Only use grain that has been cleaned and is ready to eat. Impurities (e.g. small stones) can damage the mill.

Tips for use of grain
Grain must be stored in a dry, well ventilated and cool location. Ideally grain is stored in sacks or in
wooden boxes which are not sealed airtight.
Grain is hygroscopic, i.e. water is absorbed a damp atmosphere. If the grain is too wet
when it is ground, this might cause clogging of the millstones.
The "knife test" has proven ideal in order to check whether the grain is dry enough before it is
ground. Dry grain bursts with a distinct cracking sound when trying the crush it on a hard surface with
a knife. Grain which is too wet can be pressed to flakes.
If the grain is too wet, place it for some days in a basket somewhere warm (on the heating for
example) or put it in the oven for 10-15 minutes at 50°C.
To ensure that the nutrients in the grist are fully preserved,
we recommend that you process it immediately.
The grinder is specially designed to produce grist for
muesli. If you need finer flour, we recommend purchasing
a larger mill from our range.
