Application/Adjustment

Selecting the Right Size
Measure the circumference of the
patient's hips, waist and chest. Select the
matching size according to the size chart.
For this, the waist measurement is the
most important measurement. The other
measurements should not deviate from
the measurements listed in the chart by
more than 4cm.
Fitting the AOB Torso Brace Blank
Check with the doctor whether the
patient is able to try on the orthosis. The
patient should be wearing a T-shirt or an
undershirt. Any possible pelvic obliquity
should be corrected before the orthosis
is tried on. Help the patient don the brace
blank, close the blank with a simple strap,
and check if the size fits the patient.
The orthosis should fit snugly around the
waist. Please pay heed to the doctor's
instructions. The more material you cut
off around the edges, the less spine seg-
ments will be covered and the bigger will
the range of possible motions be.
Cutting the AOB Blank
The cut of the AOB always has to be
individually adjusted to the patient,
while always also considering the
doctor's instructions. Please follow the
generally recognized rules of the trade
for the fabrication of a torso orthosis.
Cutting the Distal Edge:
Shape the ventral leg cut-out in a way
that allows the patient to bend his legs
12
by at least 90°. The pubic bone should
User Manual
remain covered by the orthosis. Cut the
dorsal edge so that a distance of about
2cm remains between the chair and
the orthosis' edge when the patient is
sitting. Only slightly shorten the edges
above the trochanters in case you want
to limit lateral movement.
Proximal Standard Cut:
The ventral edge should be about 2cm
below the sternum, and the dorsal edge
should end about 2cm below the shoul-
der blades. The lateral edges should be
cut back far enough so the patient's arm
movements are not restricted.
Ventral Standard Cut:
The AOB has to overlap by about 5-10cm
in the front. The edges should be parallel.
If the overlap is too small, an additional
strap should be attached to the orthosis.
Fitting the AOB Torso Brace
Help the patient try on the brace again,
and check the shape of the edges. If pos-
sible, ask the patient to stand, sit and walk
with the orthosis. Make more adjustments
if necessary.
Mounting the AOB Closure
on the Orthosis
Select a matching closure according to
the anterior height of the orthosis. Attach
it in a central position with the included
blind rivets (Ø 5mm).
