to select between GRINDING or WELDING (See Fig. 4)
Grinding Mode: This function is used for metal
grinding applications, not welding. In this mode the
auto-darkening shade function is turned off. The
shade is fixed in the light state that allows a clear
view to grind. Before restarting welding, set knob
back to WELDING.
Welding Mode: This function is used for most welding
applications. In this mode, the shade function is
turned on. Select the correct shade level, delay time
and sensitivity as required and before commencing
welding.
Selecting Shade Level: Select the prescribed shade
level you require according to the welding process
you will use [see "SHADE SELECTION CHART"]. For
the WHAM30 model, slide the knob to select between
shades "5-8" or "9-13" (Fig 4.) Use SHADE dial to
select an exact shade level (Fig 4.)
Selecting Delay Time: The Delay dial (Fig 4. right)
will vary the time to switch between dark & light. It
can be set between "MAX" (1.0 second) or "MIN" (0.1
second).

MAX (1.0 second): Longer delay is for most welding
applications, specially for high amperage (current)
applications. Longer delay can also be used for TIG
Welding in order to prevent the filter opening when the
light path to the sensors is temporarily obstructed by
a hand, torch, etc.
MIN (0.1 second): Shorter delay is for spot welding
applications.
Selecting Sensitivity: The SENSITIVITY dial (Fig 4. left)
will vary the sensitivity from High ("HI") to Low ("LO").
Always set sensitivity at High when beginning the
welding process, and then gradually reduce it until
the filter reacts only to the welding arc and not any
ambient light (e.g. Sun, artificial lighting, neighboring
welder's arcs, etc.).
"HI" (High): Mostly for low current welding.
"LO" (Low}: When surrounding light sources
create unwanted triggering of the filter.
Power: The welding helmet is powered by solar
energy, however it uses batteries to initiate
when necessary. Replace batteries when LOW
BATTERY light starts blinking. To replace the
batteries, remove the filter from it's holder
(Fig 4.) and slide the battery cover up (Fig 4).
COMMON PROBLEMS AND REMEDIES

Headgear has been set unevenly and there is an
uneven distance from the eyes to the filter lens.
