Set the saw plate to the minimum cutting depth and
tighten with the wing nuts. Block the saw spindle of the
type 1400 HKS circular saw by pressing the arresting button
(19), and unscrew and remove the tension screw (23) using
the Allen wrench (13). Remove pressure washer (21) and
washer (22). Pull blade guard (15) back and hold. Remove
the saw blade and flange (20). Remove splitting wedge
(12), splitting wedge adapter (17) and plain washer after
loosening the Allen screw (16).
Please wear gloves for all of the following procedures!
Remove chain guard from the chain saw attachment. Pull
blade guard (15) back to fully open position and hold.
Insert the chain saw attachment into the saw plate from
above (see illustration).
With the saw chain (3), turn the chain pinion (24) until the
transport surfaces of the chain pinion (x) and the chain
spindel (y) match up. Then the chain saw attachment can
be easily pushed into the saw spindle with the chain
pinion. Insert tension screw (23), with washer (22), press
spindle arrest and tighten the tension screw.
Swing saw plate back as far as it will go and tighten wing
nuts well.
Removing the chain saw attachment is done in reverse
order. Some effort may be required to remove the chain
pinion.
When replacing the saw blade, be sure that the flange (20),
pressure washer (21) and washer (22) are mounted on the
saw spindle in the right order. Note the rotatonal directon
of the saw blade. Tighten tension screw well.
Tightening the saw chain:
Loosen clamp screw (7). Pull bar away from chain pinion
(24), until the entire length of the chain is in contact with
the bar, and re-tighten with the clamp screw.
To check, pull the chain on one side in the middle of the
bar out of the guide groove (without much effort). The gap
between the chain and the bar should be about 3 mm (see
illustration).
Check the chain tension of the chain regularly and at
short intervals! Never tighten a hot chain! Allow chain
to cool down!
Break-in period:
You will prolong the life of the chain saw quite consid-
erably if you break the chain in well.
– Never let the chain run without oil!
– Set the chain tension (pull power plug first).
– Let the machine idle for ca. 5 minutes.
– Pull the power plug. Check the chain tension and re-
tighten the chain if necessary.
– Then for about 30 minutes, make only easy cuts.
Insure suffcient lubrication: before every second cut
push the oil pump button to pump extra oil into the guide
groove in addition to force-feed lubrication.
– During this time, check the chain tension regularly.
Before doing so, turn the machine off and pull the power
cord!
– Only after this thirty minute period should you use the
machine for more difficult cuts and greater cutting
depths.
– The load on the chain pinion is especially great.
– If traces of heavy wear (approx. 0.5 mm) are visible, it
must be replaced. A worn chain pinion reduces the life of
the saw.
Chain lubrication oil:
Sufficient chain lubriction is important for the life of the saw.
Never use waste oil – the impurities in the oil would
become deposited in the lubrication channels and lead to
blockages.
We recomend the use of standard chain lubrication oils
whose consistency has been especially developed for
use in chain saws.
– Do not continue sawing if the oil level in the tank falls
below the minimum mark (26).
– Clean the oil fill spout thoroughly every time before
adding more oil. This prevents saw dust from getting into
the tank and causing blockage of the oil feed.
– Do not fill the tank above the maximum mark.
– To fill the tank, press in the knob (2) of the oil pump and
turn to the right until the arrows on the tank and the knob
match up. The knob remains down and blocks the oil
feed.
– Open the oil feed before beginning operation! Turn
knob (2) to the left until the arrows on the tank and the
knob match up and the knob pops up.
In this position, oil flows constantly into the chain guide,
even when not in use. The advantage of constant
lubrication: The initial friction of the chain saw is less and
the life of the saw is prolonged.
Please close the tank when the machine is not in use (to
protect the environment)! Ensure that no oil leaks into the
soil. Oil can cause serious pollution and containation of
ground water!
– Never forget to open the tank before you saw! NEVER
SAW WITHOUT OIL!
– If you press the knob of the oil pump and release it again
while the oil feed is open, oil is pumped into the guide
groove of the bar in addition to the force feed lubrication.
Use this additional lubrication:
1. before larger cuts.
2. when the oil feed is blocked and the oil tank is not empty.
3. before every third cut when cutting firewood.
The oil tank of the chain saw should reach the MINIMUM level
after about thirty minutes of uninterrupted cutting.
If this is not the case, then the iol discharge opening in the
guide groove is plugged up with saw dust. Usully, the
blockage can be eliminated with a few strong squirts with
the pump.
If this procedure does not help, you will have to remove the
bar and clean the guide groove and the lubrication hole (do
not use any hard objects). Before assembling, open oil tank
and check if oil flows out. If this is not the case, then send the
chain saw attachment to our customer service departent to
repair the defect.
A well functioning oil lubrication system is the first
requirement for trouble-free operation and long life.
NEVER SAW WITHOUT OIL!
4
Changing the chain:
Never touch the saw chain without gloves! Pull the plug or
remove the power cable from the machine with the
patented Quick-Lock!
It is best to proceed in the following way:
Block the oil feed. Loosen and remove tension screw (23).
Remove clamp screw (7) and tension flange (25). Push the bar
with the chain toward the chain pinion (24) until the saw chain
can be removed from the chain pinion. Now the bar and the
chain together can be pulled out between the transparent
safety shield and the chain pinion.
– Inspect saw chain and chain guide for defects or signs of
wear.
– Never install a new chain on a worn chain guide.
When installing a new chain on the chain guide, please note the
rotational direction of the saw chain. The cutting edges
must face in the direction of rotation, as indicated by
the symbol on the transparent safety shield. The
rotational direction is indicated by an arrow on the
transparent safety shield.
