About this guide
This guide provides all the information required for the
installation and connection of the capacitive level sensor
BCS S04K501... with IO-Link interface (type-dependent).

Intended use
Together with the machine control (e.g. PLC), the
capacitive level sensor BCS is a measuring system for
media level monitoring. It is intended to be installed in
tanks or pipelines and used in the industrial sector.
Sensors from series BCS S04K501... monitor the level of
liquid, pasty, granular, or powdery media in tanks and
pipelines. They can be used for level detection and dry-run
protection and are suitable for detecting almost all media
(even adhesive or non-conductive).
Proper function according to the information in the
technical data is only guaranteed if the product is used
solely as described in the user's guide and the associated
documents as well as in compliance with the technical
specifications and requirements and only with a suitable
original Balluff accessory.
Otherwise, it is deemed non-intended use. Non-intended
use is not permitted and will result in the loss of warranty
and liability claims against the manufacturer.

The product is not intended for the following applications
and areas and may not be used there:

In safety-oriented applications in which personal safety
depends on the device function

Safety notes
Activities such as installation, connection and startup
may only be carried out by qualified personnel.
Qualified personnel are those who can recognize
possible hazards and institute the appropriate safety
measures due to their professional training, knowledge,
and experience as well as their understanding of the
relevant safety regulations pertaining to the work to be
done.
The operator is responsible for ensuring that local safety
regulations are observed.
In particular, the operator must take steps to ensure that a
defect in the product will not result in hazards to persons
or equipment.
The product must not be opened, modified or changed. If
defects and unresolvable faults occur in the product, take
it out of service and secure against unauthorized use.
Design and function
The sensor operates according to the capacitive
measuring principle.
Adhesions and foam are ignored through the use of the
patented Smart Level technology.
