For the best possible audio experience the speakers should be positioned as
shown in figure 2.
Objects positioned between the speakers and listening position can negatively
affect the sound quality. The PHANTOM M Series was designed with our wide
dispersion sound principle in mind. By using speakers with wide dispersion
technology, performance in the main listening area will be enhanced and the room
integration will be improved. The wide dispersion principle also helps ensure that
sound is distributed evenly within a large area of the listening room.
Every room has its own distinctive acoustic which influence the way we experience
sound from speakers. The sound we hear consists of both direct sound from the
speakers and reflected sound from the floor, ceiling and walls. As a basic rule,
try to avoid large, reflective surfaces in the immediate vicinity of the speakers as
these will cause strong reflections which can disturb the precision of the sound.
Soft items such as carpets, curtains, etc. will help if the sound is too bright.
Both the volume and quality of the deep bass depends on the size and shape
of the room, and the location of the speakers. Locating the speakers towards
corner locations will tend to accentuate bass, but may also result in potentially
detrimental reflections.
4.1 Mounting the dogleg brackets
DALI PHANTOM M Series incorporates dogleg brackets for in-wall mounting.
The brackets attach the speaker firmly to the rear of the surface on which it is
mounted. The dogleg brackets extend out at a 90 degree angle when the screws
are tightened (see figure 3). The screws should be tightened so that the speaker
sits securely in place – but be careful not to over tighten the screws. To tighten
the screws, use the 3 mm Allen Bit supplied.
A 3 mm Allen bit can be used with a hand-held screwdriver or an electric drill
that incorporates torque limiting. If using a drill, set the torque to its minimum. The
screws are appropriately tightened, when the gasket on the rear of the speaker
is compressed and the bezel of the speaker is flush with the mounting surface.
If you need to remove the speaker, loosen the screws approximately 5 to 20 turns
counter-clockwise and the brackets will loosen their grip.
NOTE: Do not unscrew more than 20 to 25 turns or the brackets may disengage
with the screws.
If the speakers are to be mounted in a particularly thick wall, it may be necessary
to dismount the dogleg brackets from the screws then invert and replace them.
Inverted doglegs brackets make it possible to mount the speaker in walls up to
2.75"/70 mm thick (see figure 4).
