5.2. Brakes
To prevent any surprises while driving, please familiarize yourself which
brake lever operates which brake (front and rear). It is important to never
apply any grease or cleaning agents on braking pads or rotors as it can
cause noise while braking and diminish braking functi onality.
Hydraulic Disc brakes
Disc brakes combine high braking power with a high level of control.
The brake pads of the hydraulic disc brakes can be adjusted by slightly
loosening the hexbolts of the calliper mount. Center the calliper while
pulling the brake levers fi rmly. Tighten the screws fi rmly when you are
done adjusti ng.

Burn-in procedure
Disc brakes from Shimano require a burn-in procedure. By not doing
the burn-in procedure, you will not reach the full stopping-potenti al of
the brakes. Moreover there is a chance that the brake pads can squeak
while braking. If you have problems with squeaking brakes, replace
your brake-pads, clean your disc appropriately and redo the burn-in
procedure.
Burn-in requires a dry and clean environment. Accelerate to 20km/h and
gradually brake on 1 brake unti l standsti ll. Repeat 20 ti mes for front and
rear brake separately.

We advise you to familiarise yourself gradually with the full stopping
potenti al of your bike. In that way you are preparing yourself for an
eventual emergency stop without loosing control of your bike.
bell
A full stop on a front- or rear-brake alone could potenti ally
make you loose control of your bike. Always make use of both
brakes simultaneously. For very strong braking keep your arms
straight and your weight back to counteract potenti al ti lti ng of the
bike.
