Sailing instructions
Unlike propeller driven boats that you basically point and accelerate, sailboats present some more
interesting challenge. Sailing requi- res constant reaction to water movements and wind directions.
These reactions require adjustments of rudder and sails, in order to find the best possible course. There
is no substitute for actual „on-the-water" experience and after your first couple of outings you may
want to ready through this manual again until you get better understanding of the art of sailing. While
learning it, it will be a good idea to pick up on as much sailing terminology as possible. This will make it
easier to grasp some aspects.
Quarter Lee:
Expand both sails more angle,
turn the rudder to the left
Starboard Tack-Running:
Expand both sails at max.
angle at both sides,
rudder in center position
Port Tack-Running:
Expand both sails at
max. angle at both sides,
rudder in center position
Quarter Lee:
Pull back both sails at starboard
side, rudder in center position
Luff up:
Pull back both sails gradually,
turn the rudder to the left

Wind abeam:
Expand both sails at an angle of
45° at port side, rudder in central
position
Starboard Tack:
Keep pulling back both sails,
keep turning the rudder to
center position if the sails
stop shivering
Tack:
Keep pulling back
both sails, turn the
rudder to the right
Wind abeam:
Expand both sails at a angle of
45° at starboard side
Bearing away:
Expand both sails, turn the
rudder to the left
Tack:
Keep pulling back
both sails, turn the
rudder to the left
Tack:
Keep pulling back
both sails, turn the
rudder to the left
Keep pulling back both sails,
keep turning the rudder to
center position if the sails stop
Luff up:
Pull back both sails gradually,
turn the rudder to the left
Port Tack:
shivering
