Installing an Operating System

Refer to this section when installing an OS to your computer.
• Refer to your OS or computer's documentation for more information about installing an OS.

• If you do not use this unit as a boot drive, you do not have to install your OS on it.

Caution

When installing an OS, please note:
• The install steps described in this manual are only examples. Refer to your computer and OS
documentation for more specific instructions.
• Be careful formatting drive or installing an OS. Installing an OS or formatting a drive may erase all
data on the drive. Carefully note the name and drive letters of each of your drives to avoid formatting
the wrong drive accidentally.
• While installing an OS or formatting a drive, never turn off or reboot your computer until the process
is complete, or the drive may be damaged.
• To install Windows 7, Vista, or Windows XP on the SSD, you'll have to reformat it. The wizard will step
you through this durring installation.
Installing from your computer's restore disk
Refer to your computer's manual for the procedure to use the restore disk.
Caution To install Windows XP on a drive larger than 137 GB, perform the procedure described on the
next page. If you do not perform this procedure, data may be damaged or erased.
After installing the OS, create a partition (or partitions) and format it if there is unused area on

the hard drive.
