1. TREE SELECTION
•
Tree should be healthy and have a minimum trunk diameter of 12 in (30 cm) and a maximum
diameter of 70 cm.
•
The tree should have enough abrasion to allow the product to be securely installed on the trunk.
•
Check the tree before each use. Below we show examples from the hazard checklist of the
International Tree Care Society. If you answered yes to one or more points, then the tree is not
healthy, and the equipment should be removed from the tree to prevent use.
•
Are there large, dead branches in the tree?
•
Does the tree have cavities or rotten wood along the trunk or in major branches?
•
Are mushrooms present at the base of the tree?
•
Are there cracks or splits in the trunk or where branches are attached?
•
Have any branches fallen from the tree?
•
Have adjacent trees fallen over or died?
•
Has the trunk developed a strong lean?
•
Do many of the major branches arise from one point on the trunk?
•
Have the roots been broken off, injured, or damaged by lowering the soil level, installing pavement,
repairing sidewalks, or digging trenches?
•
Has the site recently been changed by construction, raising the soil level, or installing lawns?
•
Have the leaves prematurely developed an unusual color or size?
•
Have trees in adjacent wooded areas been removed?
•
Has the tree been topped or otherwise heavily pruned?
•
Warning! The Tree Climbers must be installed over a level, soft surface (lawn, sand) that is free of
ALL obstacles (e.g. bushes, stones and anything that can cause injuries). Never install the Tree
Cllimbers over hard surfaces or water (e.g. swimming pools, pools, streams, lakes, etc.).
•
Warning! Maintain a minimum distance of 2 m from other systems or obstacles such as fences,
garages, houses, hanging branches, clotheslines or power lines. In general, keep a distance of at
least 2 m on all sides from the area where the Tree Climbers are used.
