al-safetech Powder Handling Enclosure Systems
Control Performance Evalu ations, SafeBridge Europe, Ltd
Control peifwmances of the following three al-safetech powder handling enclosure
systems (PHES) were evaluated by SafeBridge Europe, Limited in March 2008.
1. Safetech ST1 - 900
2. Safetech ST1 - 1200
3. Safetech STI - 1500
The evaluations involved weighing gramme quantities of naproxen sodium by trained al-
safetech personnel in a demonstration laboratory under controlled conditions. A standardised
weighing and cleaning procedure was used, which included safe handling techniques
designed to achieve good control performance. A highly sensitive occupational hygiene
measurement technique was used to detect releases of airbome naproxen sodium during the
weighing and cleaning operations.
Control perfonnance concentrations derived for each PHES in the evaluations and by
application of the principles of EN 689', ranged from 11 ng/m
Results of the evaluations indicate potential control perfonnance of the powder handling
enclosure systems under the test conditions used and represent control perfonnance levels
which could potentially be achieved in the workplace by trained operators applying safe
handling techniques. Users of these PHESs or any control device should undertake suitable
control perfonnance evaluations under the actual conditions of intended use.
SafeBridge reconunends that powder handling enclosure systems be used in a suitable
laboratory environment by trained operators wearing appropriate respiratory protective
equipment.
