The GIMA infant measuring mat is a precision device used to measure the stature of infants in cm and evalu-
ate their growth curve. The infant measuring mat is intended for use in paediatric clinics, children's hospitals
or for home visits by paediatricians. There are two holes on the upper fixing bracket to hang the mat on the
wall during non-use. The mat can be used for measurements from 10-99cm with an approximation of +/-5 mm.
USE
How to measure
1. Lay the infant on the graduated mat after correctly positioning the plastic stops in a vertical position at 90°
with respect to the graduated scale. The infant's head must be placed against the plastic stop, using your
left hand to keep the infant still.
2. Using your right hand, move the stop at the bottom of the graduated scale toward the infant's feet.
3. Make sure the infant's legs are straight. It is recommended to gently press the infant's knees down on the
mat using your left hand .
4. When the end stop is positioned on the soles of the infant's feet at a right angle, read the stature indicated
at the bottom of the graduated mat.
High-level precision can be achieved by following the instructions above.
INTERPRETATION
Measuring the infant's height is useful in determining the correct growth curve using the calculated percen-
tiles, associated with their weight. The "weight and height" of infants can be compared with so-called Tan-
ner-Whitehouse reference curves. These curves identify the lines (percentiles) defining the range considered
normal and acceptable based on age.
