5.5 Experiment „accommodation"
(Use activity card no. 4, LED spotlight and optical lenses no. 1 and 2)
Turn on the LED spotlight to 3x white light and lay it on the indicated, dashed line on activity card no. 4.
Place optical lens no. 1 as an eye lens on the designated field. Answer the following questions:
1. Where is the focal point?
2. Which type of lens would be needed to move the focal point onto the retina? Exchange lens no. 1 with lens no. 2. Check your
answer.
5.6 Experiment „image-formation on the retina"
(Use activity card no. 4, LED spot light and optical lenses no. 2)
Turn on the LED spot light the following way: top red light, middle and bottom white light. Lay the device on the indicated, das-
hed line on activity card no. 4.
Place optical lens no. 2 as an eye lens on the designated field.
Answer the following questions:
1. How are the light beams arranged after passing through the focal point?
2. What does that mean for the flower picture on the retina?

6. Solutions

Solution to experiment 5.1 "converging or diverging lenses?"
1. Some lenses spread light, some bundle it.
2. Lenses can be divided in two types: Lenses that diverge light, so called diverging lenses (3), and lenses that bundle light rays
or make them come together, so called converging lenses (4).
