RCD manufacturers specifications. If any of the times noted
are greater than those specified, it is likely the RCD is faulty.
Carry out further investigations to verify the cause before
replacing the RCD.

6. Fuse and battery replacement.

 Warning! Disconnect from the circuit under test, turn the
instrument off and remove the test leads before opening the
case to replace the fuse or batteries.
 Warning! To ensure continued protection, replace fuses
only with the types given in the specifications.
Note: As the fuses form an integral part of the instrument, only
replace them with the specified type. Using other fuse types
may cause large errors in measurements and the instrument
may not meet its specifications.
6.1 To replace the internal fuse:
a) Use a screwdriver to remove the screw from the battery
compartment cover on the rear of the instrument. Remove
the cover. Retain the screw and cover.
b) Remove the fuse from the holder and replace with the
correct type given in section 3.2 "General Specifications". A
spare fuse may also be stored in the dedicated recess in the
battery compartment.
c) Refit the battery compartment cover and secure with the
screw.
d) Turn the instrument on and check for correct operation.

6.2 To replace the fuses in the distribution board test lead:

a) Grasp the test lead probe either side of the finger guard and
unscrew the conical tip.
b) Slide the tip from the probe body and remove the fuse.
c) Replace the fuse with the correct type as specified in
Section 3.2 "General specifications".
d) Refit the tip and screw fully in.
e) Reconnect the test lead to the instrument and check for
correct operation.

6.3 To replace the fuse in the UK mains test lead:

a) Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to unclip the fuse carrier
from the underside of the BS 1363 plug.
b) Remove the fuse from the fuse carrier.
c) it a new fuse of the type specified in section. 3.2 "General
specifications" into the fuse carrier.
d) Refit the fuse carrier to the plug.
e) Connect the test lead to the instrument and check for
correct operation.
6.4 To replace the batteries:
When the "
" symbol appears in the display, the batteries
have insufficient power to perform an accurate test and must
be replaced.
a) Use a screwdriver to remove the screw from the battery
compartment cover on the rear of the instrument (see Fig.
12 above). Remove the cover. Retain the screw and cover.
b) Remove the battery holder from the compartment and
carefully disconnect the electrical connector.
c) Remove the 8 exhausted cells and replace with 8 fresh cells
of the type given in section 4: "Specifications", observing
correct cell polarity. Do not mix old and new cells.
d) Observing the correct polarity, reconnect the electrical
connector and place the battery holder into the battery
compartment.
e) Switch the instrument on and check for correct operation.
f) Dispose of the removed cells in accordance with local
regulations.
