UNPACKING AND INSPECTION

The following items should all be within the carton:-
Contents List
Cap c/w Cable Connector & Fitted Skirt
Note: The Power Cap also provides protection to EN 812, the Bump Cap standard. It should be noted that the
special liner for this protection forms an integral part of the cap assembly. Ensure that the "hard" liner is fitted in
the Cap before use.
2.
STORAGE
When not in use or during transportation, the Power Cap should be stored in the packaging in which it was
supplied. The Power Cap should be stored away from direct sunlight, not in contact with solvents and such
a manner that it cannot be damaged by physical contact with hard surfaces. Storage temperature should be
between 5°C and 40°C and relative humidity not greater than 75%.
Batteries should be removed from the battery holder when the unit is not used for prolonged periods. Batteries
should be stored as for the complete unit.
3.

BEFORE USE

Replaceable battery version:-
4 "C" cell batteries are required (Duracell™ MN1400 for example). Alkaline batteries will normally provide an
average running time of 20 hours at the designed flow rate of 170l/min.
Rechargeable battery version:-
The Powercap is provided with a 4 or 8 hour rechargeable battery. The batteries will be supplied with some
residual charge present. The battery should be connected to the unit and allowed to run down before charging.
PowerCap lite version
PowerCap lite has two integral Lithium-Ion batteries. The batteries
will be supplied with some residual charge present. The unit should
be run until the batteries are fully exhausted and then a full charge
should be applied. An 8 hour charge will produce 6 hours of run
time from PowerCap lite. The charger socket is located behind the
filter on the right-hand side. 1. pull the cable out. 2. Disconnect
the motor and plug the charger into the socket. 3. When charged
disconnect the charger and plug battery with the motor cable.

Fitting the batteries
Separate the two "halves" of the battery compartment by
unscrewing the "coin-operated" fastener on the back of the battery
compartment above the belt clip.
The fastener will only turn through 90°. Lift away the back of the
battery compartment, this will reveal the battery holder.
Insert the 4 "C" cells firmly, carefully following the polarity (+ -)
markings in the battery holder.
Replace the back cover of the battery compartment, the bottom of the
cover should be inserted first, so that the two bayonets on the
housing engage with the two slots on the cover, pivot the cover down
and secure the fastener.
Charging for 8hr/4hr batteries
On receipt of the unit run the battery flat and charge for 9-18hrs to reach maximum
capacity. Follow on charging cycles should then take 8-16hrs. if the unit is run
completely flat or the unit has not been used for a long period it would be adviseable to
repeat the 9-18hr charge cycle. A reduced charging time will reduce the time that either
model Powercap will operate at its intended flow rate.
