Protection class
Operate the device in a closed room. No persons, animals or plants may stay in the treatment area as
ozone may cause poisoning and death! After treatment, air the treated area well!
It is forbidden to use the ozone generator in a room with high humidity (e.g. after cleaning a vehicle
with water)! The overly high humidity can cause rusting on the ozone plate and reduce the lifetime of
the ozone generator, and possibly causing formation of nitric oxides and nitric acid.
2.5 PROPERTIES AND ADVERSE HEALTH EFFECTS OF OZONE
Ozone is a gas with a specific pungent smell, so it can be easily detected at lower concentrations as
well. Ozone is a trioxygen molecule (O3) with a small negative charge. The half-life of ozone is short,
ca. 30 minutes, after which the molecule breaks down in to a normal dioxygen molecule (O2).
The ozone molecules form a highly pure gas, which is a strong oxidizing agent, capable of chemical-
free disinfection, thus being environmentally friendly. The ozone is one of the most effective
disinfecting agent. The disinfection effect will be optimal when the ozone concentration reaches the
3
value of 3-4g/dm
. The disinfecting effect of the ozone is 50 times stronger and 3000 times faster as
that of the chlorine. The ozone molecules are formed from dioxygen molecules, which are generated
by the ozone generator. Though oxidation the viruses and bacteria, other organic matter that cause
the smell are decomposed. The device eliminates smells, such as cigarette smoke, food, chemical
smells, removes the musty smell, terminates mould fungi, spores, mite. The break-down speed of the
ozone is greatly influenced by temperature, concentration and humidity. Ozone is an irritant. Ozone
gas reacts with biological materials and causes partial damage. Symptoms of the irritation include
coughing, throat aches, sleepiness, headaches. This can already be cause by a concentration of
3
0,2g/dm
. The half-time is approximately 30 minutes, after 2 hours 6% of the original concentration is
left. Rooms cleaned with ozone have to be aired immediately after treatment, if necessary, use a
respirator with an activated carbon filter. A 0,1ppm (parts per million) concentration is not dangerous to
human health, if the exposure time does not exceed an 8 hour period. The 10ppm concentration is
dangerous to human health with en exposure time of several minutes. The ozone generators can
produce a maximum of 12,5ppm concentration. The higher the concentration, the faster the break
down of the ozone molecules. A higher concentration can be produced by using several ozone
generators at once. Ozone creates a poisonous and potentially deadly atmosphere, so only
professionals acquainted with professional literature on ozone may use it. Professional applications
demand that the ozone concentration during use should be between 0,01ppm and 3ppm. This way the
disinfection of the room will take approx. 1/2 hour. The concentration value at which disinfection starts
and mite, mould fungi are terminated starts at 1g ozone/10m
capable of producing 7g ozone in 1hour, so a 70m
