2 Initiation

2 .1 Scope of application

Caution!
Damage to the cutting mechanism!
The machine must only be used to shred
paper, CD's, DVD's and credit cards .
Shredding other sorts of data carriers may
cause damage to the machine (e.g. damage
to the cutters etc.).
The intimus 21 CP4 data shredder is a machine used
for shredding general documents and data carriers
such CD's, DVD's and credit cards.
2 .2 Installation
Caution!
Danger of injury! Damage to the cutting
mechanism!
Please be aware the shredder will opera-
te only when assembled correctly and the
wastebaskel is placed properly in the shred-
der cabinet. When assembling the shredder,
be careful not to place your fingers near the
cutter blades and use caution when positi-
oning the shredder head onto the shredder
cabinet.
1 . The shredder should be placed on a flat level sur-
face.
NOTE!
Depending on the type of floor surface where
the shredder is to be placed, casters have been
icluded and can be installed easily. it is recom-
mended that casters only be used if the shred-
der is being place on a hard smooth surface.
2 . With the wastebasket removed from the shredder
cabinet, position the shredder head over the cabi-
net.
3 . Firmly push down on the four corners of the shred-
der head to lock the shredder head in place.
4 . Carefully place the shredder into the upright po-
sition on a level surface and slide the wastebasket
fully into the shredder cabinet.
5 . Connect the machine to the power with the plug.

3 .1 Turning the machine on

With the electrical cord plugged in, the slide switch
(Fig. 1/3) in the auto (I) position and the wastebasket
properly in place, the ready LED will light up. This me-
ans that the shredder is now ready for operation.

3 .2 Operating the shredder

NOTE!
The intimus 21 CP4 will cut staples, small
paper clips and credit cards; however, proper
discretion is recommended.
When paper is inserted into the feed opening, the
shredding process will start automalically and stop
when the paper has completed its travel through the
feed opening.

Located on top of the shredder is a slide switch
(Fig. 1/3) marked off (O), rev and auto (I) and the ready
and overheat LEDs (Fig. 1/1+2). Their purposes are:
When the slide switch is in the auto (I) positi-
•
on, the shredding process will start when paper is
inserted into the feed opening and will continue
until it has completely passes through the feed
opening.
When the slide switch is in the rev position, it
•
will assist in the removal of a paper jam, which re-
verses the shredding process prior to a completed
forward cycle, thus clearing the cutters. When swit-
ching from auto (I) to rev, always stop momentarily
to prevent possible damage to the motor.
• The off (O) position also is used to terminate the
AC power to the shredder. lt is recommended to
turn the shredder off when the shredder is not
being used for a prolonged period of time.
When the ready LED is lit it lets the user know that
•
the wastebasket is inserted correctly and that the
shredder is turned on and ready for use. lf the rea-
dy LED does not light up, make sure that the plug
