Electric Chain Saw Sharpener
®
This electrical powered chain saw sharpener is designed to sharpen most types of chainsaw
chain.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

Wear eye protection and dust mask. Grinding will cause dust and sparks; Chain Saw Cutters
must be sharpened equally and evenly. Uneven sharpening can cause the saw to kickback,
resulting in potential personal injury.
WARNING
UK
Chain saw sharpener operates at high speeds. Incorrect assembly or misuse can result in
personal injury or property damage. Read and follow ALL safety precautions listed below.
Failure to follow all instructions may result in electric shock, fire, serious personal injury
and/or property damage.
• Grinding produces sparks during operation. Always use this tool in a well-ventilated area.
Do not use in areas containing explosive fumes or flammable materials.
• Grinding produces a fine, dust-like debris while in operation. Always wear a standard dust
mask during operation. This took should always be used in a well-ventilated area.
• Keep work area clean and well lit.
• Always wear adequate eye protection to withstand flying sparks and metal shavings/
debris.
• Always make sure that the power switch is in the OFF position before plugging into a
power source.
• Double check the locknut for correct, secure grinding-stone installation before each use.
• Do not use on any object other than saw chain.
• NEVER sharpen saw chain while the chainsaw's engine is running.
• Keep bystanders, children and visitors away while operating power tools. Distractions can
cause you to loose control and lead to personal injury and or property damage.
• Never use this power tool in wet or rainy conditions. Water increases the risk of electric
shock.
• Never use the cord to carry the tool or pull plug from the outlet. This can result in cord
damage and potential risk of electric shock. When operating a power tool outside, use an
outdoor extension cord marked "W-A" or "W." These cords are rated for outdoor use and
reduce the risk of electric shock.
PERSONAL SAFETY
• Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power
tool. Do not use tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A
moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
• Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair. Keep your hair,
clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry, or long hair can be
caught in moving parts.
• Avoid accidental starting. Be sure switch is off before plugging in. Carrying tools with
your finger on the switch or plugging in tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
• Remove adjusting keys or switches before turning the tool on. A switch or a key that is
left attached to a rotating part of this tool may result in personal injury.
• Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Proper footing and balance enables better
control of the tool in unexpected situations.
• Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask, non-skid safety shoes,
hard hat, or hearing protection must be used for appropriate conditions.
ASSEMBLY OF CHAIN SAW SHARPENING ATTACHMENT
There are numerous types of saw chain used on different kinds of chain saws. For this
reason, it is important that you assemble your new chain saw sharpener to suit the particular
chain on your saw.
1.
Determine what size stone is required to sharpen you chain. To do this, refer to your
chain saw's owner's manual or contact your chain saw manufacturer. Many times the
size and pitch of the chain is stamped or printed on the chain saw's bar.
2.
Your new Electric Chain Saw Sharpener comes with 3 different size stones.
5/32" (smallest diameter stone) - Fits saws with 1/4 pitch or 3/8" Low Profile chain
3/16" (medium diameter stone) - Fits saws with .325" Pitch chain
7/32" (largest diameter stone) - Fits saws with 3/8" Pitch chain
You can identify the size of each stone by sizing it with the Multi-Wrench included
3.
Once you have identified the correct stone for your saw's chain, remove the collet cap
from the end of your sharpener. (FIG 1) MAKE SURE TOOL IS OFF AND DISCONNECTED
FROM POWER SOURCE.
4.
Attach the correct sharpening stone by slowly turning chuck while simultaneously
pressing lock button. (FIG 2)
5.
Open chuck and insert shank of sharpener. Make sure to leave approx 1/4" of shank
exposed between chuck cap and stone. (FIG 3)
6.
Tighten chuck using enclosed Multi-Wrench.
7.
Screw on chain saw sharpening guide. (FIG 4)
8.
The sharpening guide must be adjusted up or down on the mounting plate so the
correct amount of each stone's diameter will be exposed.
9.
To adjust stone to correct depth, loosen screws on the mounting plate of the sharpen-
ing guide.
10. Place Multi-Wrench on it's side with the four round notches down upon the face of the
4
sharpening guide. The four notches correspond to the different stone sizes (5/32, 3/16,
7/32 and 4.5mm).
11. Position the correct size notch over the stone and adjust guide until stone is seated
into the gullet of the notch. (FIG 5) Retighten both guide screws to lock guide in place.
You are now ready to sharpen the chain.
SHARPENING THE CHAIN
1.
Place your saw on a flat, solid, stable surface so it will not move or slide around during
the sharpening process. The chain tension should be adjusted to the manufacturer's
specifications. This will prevent the cutters from moving during the sharpening
process.
2.
Position the saw so you are facing the bar with the chain saw motor to your right.
Always sharpen the saw away from your body. Sharpen chain saw cutting teeth or
cutters as shown in FIG 6 and FIG 7. The sharpening guide should lay flat on the chain
with the stone positioned in the cutter at a 30° angle to the bar. Use the guidelines on
the top of the sharpening guide for reference.
3.
When sharpening, use two or three light strokes back and forth with the sharpener. Let
the sharpener and stone do the work. Do not apply excessive pressure. Sharpen all
cutters equally.
4.
When all the teeth on the top of the bar have been sharpened, use a glove or rag to
advance the chain by pulling toward the end of the bar. Sharpen remaining cutters
evenly.
WARNING! DO NOT SHARPEN CHAIN EXCESSIVELY
Never exceed the manufacturers recommended depth-gauge setting for your chain and
follow manufacturers current specifications for correct filling angles.
Excessive depth-gauge settings or incorrect filing angles can increase the risk of kickback,
which can cause serious injury to the saw operator or bystanders.
ALWAYS REFER TO CHAIN SAW'S OWNER'S MANUAL FOR CORRECT SHARPENING

SPECIFICATIONS.
