2. Description

2.1. General

The single-phase alternating current power adjuster of the type KDS 5-400 serves for the continuously
variable voltage control by means of phase control. The adjuster can be operated both with resistive and
with resistive-inductive loads.
It is especially suitable for torque motors the torque of which has to be changed within certain limits.
The phase control is adjusted optionally by means of:
internal setpoint (+ 10 V DC) and externally connected potentiometer (10 kW)
external setpoint setting from 0 to +10 V DC
external setpoint setting from 0 to +20 mA DC (optional)
through floating control inputs.
Several adjusters can be adjusted with one potentiometer or setpoint.
The unit is preset on delivery to a minimum and a maximum output voltage.
A larger minimum or a smaller maximum output voltage can be set with two trimming resistors.
It is possible optionally to equip the adjuster with a ramp-function generator which after switching on runs
the output voltage up to the setpoint through an adjustable time ramp.
The unit fulfills the test specification according to IEC 1000-4-5 (EMC) and bears the CE mark

2.2. Unit construction

The power supply unit consists of two antiparallel connected thyristors with heat sinks. The control unit is
isolated electrically from the mains and is supplied by a stabilized power supply unit. The zero potential of
the adjuster can be grounded.
An interference suppression filter is installed to guarantee electromagnetic compatibility. The electrical
connection is made by screw terminals on the PC board.
