Dynamic Loudness function
("LOUDNESS / OFF")
If Dynamic Loudness is switched on, the treble
and bass frequencies are boosted during quiet
passages. This effect is gradually reduced as the
volume level increases. You can also switch this
setting on and off using the remote control.
When you switch on the loudspeaker again, it re-
verts to the setting selected by the switch.
Expert tip: The sensitivity of the human ear varies
according to the frequency. This "non-linearity" is
also dependent on the volume level. The ISO 226
standard sets this out as an array of curves deter-
mined from numerous series of experiments (see
fig. on the left). The Dynamic Loudness function
compensates for this.
Fixed initial volume
You can use the DIP switch "VOLUME / DEFAULT"
to set the AIR-X loudspeaker to a fixed initial vol-
ume level ("DEFAULT" = switch set to the right).
This is always recommended if you want to oper-
ate the loudspeaker without the AIR-X BASE.
Switching off the infra-red sensor
Switch the "IR ON / OFF" switch to the "OFF" posi-
tion (right-hand position) to deactivate the infra-
red sensor in the loudspeaker.
The loudspeaker can then only be switched on
by wireless (from the AIR-X BASE) or by a directly
fed analog signal. The loud-speaker also no long-
er responds to the remote control.
"TREBLE", "BASS"
These two switches allow you to make minor
corrections to the sound with the help of two
equalizers. The treble and bass can be boosted
by 2 dB respectively relative to the default setting
(0 dB). Since the effects of the two switches can
be combined, this provides a total of 3 different
sound correction curves (example: TREBLE set to
+2 dB and BASS set to +2 dB results in a "bathtub"
frequency re-sponse). The cut-off frequencies for
the two equalizers are approx. 80 Hz and 12 kHz
respectively.
