(2) How to drill
To use for drilling lum ber
Apply the point of the drill bit to the desired drilling
p o si t i o n , h o l d t h e d r i l l p er p en d i cu l ar t o t h e
w orkpiece surface and turn on the sw itch.
When drilling a through hole in lumber, remove the
drill from the material as soon as the tip of the drill
bit protrudes from the opposite surface. Then, turn
the workpiece over and complete the drilling from
the opposite side to obtain a clean hole. (Fig. 4)
If extra lum ber is applied under the lum ber you
w ant to drill and it is drilled together, a fine hole
w ill also be m ade. (Fig. 5)
A w ood-w orking drill need not be pressed strongly
since it penetrates using the screw at the point.
Even if excessive force is used, a hole w ill not be
m ade quickly.
To use for drilling m etal
In case you drill m etal w ith a m etal-w orking drill,
apply in advance a center punch in the drilling
position. You can drill m etal stably since the point
of the drill does not slip.
If you apply sew ing m achine oil or soapy w ater to
the drill w ith a brush or an old tooth brush, the
drill w ill last long.
Even if m ore-than-necessary force is used, a hole
w ill not be m ade quickly.
On the contrary, the edge of the drill w ill be
dam aged. This w ill decrease operational efficiency
and shorten the life of this tool.
CAUTION:
Do not expose the m otor to w ater as it m ay cause
m otor m alfunction and electric shock.
5. To use the driving w ood screw s (FD10VB)
(1) Driver bit
For driving a slotted head w ood screw , the driver
bit detaches easily. So use cross-recessed head
w ood screw s as often as possible.
Select a driver bit m atching the cross-recessed and
the slotted groove of the w ood screw .
(2) Pilot hole
If a pilot hole is made with a drill a little smaller than
the diameter of the wood screw, the lumber will not
be split and the wood screw will be driven with ease.
(3) Driving operation
Put the w ood screw lightly in the pilot hole, apply
the bit to the screw head groove, turn on the sw itch
and drive the screw .
6. Caution to be taken immediately after operation
When placing the drill in dusty places before the
rotating parts has stopped com pletely, m ake sure
the m achine does not suck in dust and sw arf.
M AINTENANCE AND INSPECTION
CAUTION
Be sure to sw itch pow er OFF and disconnect the plug
during m aintenance and inspection.
1. Inspecting the drill bits and driver bit
Since use of an abraded drill bit will cause motor
malfunctioning and degraded efficiency, replace the
drill bit with a new one or resharpening without delay
when abrasion is noted. If you use a driver bit of
which point is worn or broken, it will be dangerous
since it slips. So replace it with a new one.
2. Inspecting the mounting screw s
Regularly inspect all m ounting screw s and ensure
that they are properly tightened. Should any of the
screw s be loose, retighten them im m ediately. Failure
to do so could result in serious hazard.
3. Servicing
Consult a Hitachi Authorized Service Center in the
