For Your Safety

Working safely with this machine is
possible only when the operating
and safety information are read
completely and the instructions
contained therein are strictly fol-
lowed.
In addition, the general safety in-
structions in the enclosed booklet
must be followed.
Before using for the first time, ask
for a practical demonstration.
If the cable is damaged or cut through
while working, do not touch the cable
but immediately pull the mains plug.
Never use the machine with a damaged
cable.
Wear ear protection to prevent damage
to your hearing.
Wear safety glasses and sturdy shoes.
For long hair, wear hair protection. Work
only with close-fitting clothes.
Connect machines that are used outdoors by means
s
of a fault current protection switch (FI) with a maxi-
mum triggering current of 30 mA. Use only an exten-
sion cable that is approved for outdoor use.
Always direct the cable to the rear away from the ma-
s
chine.
Insert the mains plug into the socket only when the
s
machine is switched off.
When working with the machine, always hold it firmly
s
with both hands and provide for a secure stance.
Place the machine on the nut/screw only when
s
switched off.
For screws, work using the first gear or with a low
s
speed.
Be careful when screwing in long screws; danger of
s
sliding off.
Always switch off the machine and allow to come to
s
a stop before putting down.
If the machine is operated without the vacuuming
s
attachment (e.g., chiseling), the vacuuming con-
nection 10 must always be closed with the plug 19
(accessory).
The vacuum attachment must not be operated with-
s
out the dust bag.
Never allow children to use the machine.
s
Bosch is only able to ensure perfect functioning of
s
the machine if the original accessories intended for it
are used.

Before Use

Contacting electric lines may cause fire or electric shock.
Striking a gas line will probably result in explosion. Break-
ing into a water pipe will cause property damage or may
cause an electric shock.
Always use the correct supply voltage!
The voltage of the power source must agree with the
value given on the nameplate of the machine. Machines
designated for 230 V can also be operated with 220 V.
Tool Changing (Fig. O – S)
Take care that the dust protection cap 3 is not
damaged when changing tools.
SDS-plus Tools
The SDS-plus tool is designed to be freely movable. This
causes eccentricity when the machine is off-load. How-
ever, the drill automatically centres itself during opera-
tion. This does not affect drilling precision.
Inserting (Fig.
Clean and lightly oil the tool before inserting.
Insert the dust-free tool into the tool holder 2 with twist-
ing until it latches.
The tool locks itself. Check the locking by pulling on the
tool.
Removing (Fig.
Pull the locking sleeve 4 to the rear (a) and hold while re-
moving the tool (b).
Tools without SDS-plus
Do not use tools without SDS-plus for hammer
drilling or chiselling!
To work with tools without SDS-plus (e.g., drills with cy-
lindrical shafts), a drill chuck 20 with a SDS-plus chuck
shaft 21 (optional accessory) must be inserted into the
tool holder (Fig.
Insert the dust-free, assembled chuck into the tool hold-
er 2 with twisting until it latches (Fig.
The chuck locks itself. Check the locking by pulling on
the chuck.
Srewdriver Bits (Fig.
For screwdriver bits, use the SDS-plus adapter 22 (op-
tional accessory).
System Accessories
Refer to the Bosch Catalogue for insertion tools.
A list of accessories can be found at the end of these in-
structions.
English–2
Do not drill, fasten or cut into blind
areas where electric, gas or water
lines may exist. Use appropriate
detectors to determine if these
lines are hidden in the work area or
call the local utility company for as-
sistance.
