Tipps & Hinweise
Sie brauchen also

Make sure that the cables are not squashed or kinked during set-up.
Tips & notes
• The USB hub can only be operated in the "self-powered" mode, the power supply must be
via the provided adapter.
A "bus-powered" operation (power supply via PC) is impossible.
• The USB2.0 hub is USB1.1 compatible, i.e. conventional USB1.1 devices can be operated
without any problems at the USB2.0 hub. However, the USB1.1 device will not get any faster!
Of course, the USB2.0 hub can also be operated at a USB1.1 connection, e.g. if your PC does
not have an additional connector.
However it is also not possible to increase the speed of data transmission.
• In order to be able to use higher speeds (480MBit/ s, i.e. 60MByte/ s in theory), all the devi-
ces must support USB2.0 – the USB device (e.g. an external CD burner) itself, the USB hub
and the USB controller in the PC.
The theoretical maximum speed of 480MBits/ s will not be achieved in practice. Hardly any
device (e.g. hard disk, burner etc.) is capable of supplying data so fast.
Other reasons (such as simultaneous operation of other USB devices) will decrease the
transmission rate.
• For a trouble-free USB2.0 operation you normally do not need any special "USB2.0 cables".
Conventional "normal" USB cables are absolutely sufficient, however, they must be shiel-
ded.
Should you notice any transmission problems during the operation of USB2.0 devices, you
could try using a USB cable having been tested for USB2.0 operation. (" USB2.0 certified").
• In the secured mode of Windows no USB operation is possible.
Therefore, a USB keyboards or a USB mouse will normally not function (perhaps the BIOS of
your motherboard supplies USB support for a USB keyboard or mouse, perhaps keyboard and
mouse must then be directly connected to the PC and not via a USB hub.)
• USB devices allow connecting and disconnecting during operation. So you need not switch
off your PC if you want to plug or unplug devices (with other interfaces, this can lead to
damages, e.g. if you connect or disconnect a PS/ 2 mouse during operation).
However, if there is a data transmission going on at the USB port, e.g. if an external disk drive
is supplying data to the PC when you pull the USB connector, Windows might crash and even
other data may be damaged!
For some USB2.0 devices, an icon with a double flash is displayed in the menu bar in
Windows ME. With this function you can "separate" the USB device from the PC, i.e. ask the
PC to close open files.
