Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Das Produkt ist zum Einsatz am USB-Port eines PCs/Notebooks vorgesehen und
dient dort zum Anschluss an ein bestehendes Netzwerk.

Auf der einen Seite des USB-Netzwerkadapters befindet sich der USB-Stecker
(Typ A), auf der anderen ist eine kleine Klappe erkennbar, die Sie mit einem
Fingernagel leicht aufklappen können (Klappe lässt sich ca. um 40° aufstellen).
Nach dem Aufklappen muss hier der RJ45-Stecker korrekt eingesteckt werden. Der
Clip an einer Seite des RJ45-Steckers liegt dabei oben, die Kontakte des RJ45-
Steckers zu den im Netzwerkadapter sichtbaren Kontaktfedern hin.
Führen Sie den RJ45-Stecker im Winkel von etwa 10° ein und klicken Sie ihn dann
vorsichtig nach oben ein.
Achten Sie darauf, dass der Stecker nicht mit Gewalt eingesteckt wird. Bei
Zerstörung des Steckers erlischt jeglicher Garantieanspruch!
Wenn Sie den RJ45-Stecker von der Buchse trennen wollen, so drücken Sie vor-
sichtig den Clip des RJ45-Steckers herunter, bewegen Sie den RJ45-Stecker wie-
der auf einen Winkel von 10° nach unten und ziehen Sie ihn dann vorsichtig und
langsam heraus.
Achtung! Wenden Sie beim Einstecken und Abstecken des RJ45-
Steckers keinerlei Gewalt an. Aufgrund der Bauart ist keine grössere
und massivere Buchse möglich.
Verkanten Sie den Stecker nicht und stecken Sie ihn nur korrekt
herum ein.
Achten Sie auch während dem Betrieb des Produkts darauf, dass die
Buchse und der RJ45-Stecker nie mechanisch belastet wird!
Verschließen Sie die Klappe, wenn der USB-Netzwerkadapter nicht
benötigt wird oder transportiert wird.
Anschluss
Starten Sie Ihr Betriebssystem und warten Sie, bis es vollständig geladen ist.
Verbinden Sie den Adapter über die kleine Spezialbuchse mit einem RJ45-Kabel.
Schieben Sie dann den Adapter in eine USB-Buchse Ihres PCs oder USB-Hubs.
Treiber-Installation
Windows erkennt den USB-Netzwerkadapter automatisch. Legen Sie die
Treiberdiskette in das Diskettenlaufwerk Ihres PCs ein und folgen Sie allen
Anweisungen von Windows.
Windows 9x/ME benötigt dann ggf. seine Installations-CD, um weitere
Netzwerkkomponenten zu installieren.
Tipps & Hinweise
• Wenn Sie für Ihr Netzwerk einen eigenen Netzwerk- oder Systemadministrator
haben (etwa in einer grösseren Firma), so lassen Sie IHN Anschluss und

Verkabelung übernehmen, verbinden Sie den USB-Netzwerkadapter nicht mit PC
und Netzwerk.

• Die angegebene Datenübertragungsrate von 10 bzw. 100MBit pro Sekunde wird
normalerweise nicht erreicht. Übertragungsfehler, gleichzeitige Zugriffe mehre-
rer Computer, Zugriffe auf die Festplatte (Lesen auf dem einen Rechner,
Schreiben auf dem anderen) usw. verringern diesen theoretischen Wert.
Ausserdem sind über USB1.1 nur theoretisch maximal 12MBit möglich.
Praktisch sind effektive Datenübertragungsraten bis etwa 800kByte/s-1MByte/s
erreichbar.
• Bei Windows95/98 kann es etwas dauern, bis die Rechner im Netzwerk sichtbar
werden. Wenn Sie die Rechner eingeschaltet haben und Windows95/98 auf allen
Rechnern nach ein paar Sekunden geladen ist, können Sie in der Regel nicht
sofort einen anderen Rechner zugreifen.
"Netzwerkumgebung" kann z.B. die Meldung kommen "...Das Netzwerk kann
nicht durchsucht werden...". Es kann unter bestimmten Umständen bis zu zwei
Minuten dauern, bis weitere Rechner erscheinen.
Um Laufwerke und Verzeichnisse für andere Rechner freizugeben, muss die
"Datei- und Druckerfreigabe" aktiviert sein. Sie finden Sie z.B. in der
Systemsteuerung unter "Netzwerk". Wie die Option schon sagt, können Sie auch
Ihren Drucker für die anderen Rechner auf dem Netzwerk freigeben, d.h. Sie
brauchen nicht mehr an jedem PC einen Drucker anschliessen oder gar die
Dateien per Diskette zwischen den Rechnern umkopieren, um sie ausdrucken zu
können.
• Bei Windows 98 wird das so beliebte und einfache IPX-Netzwerkprotokoll nicht
installiert. Spiele, die ein IPX-Protokoll benötigen, laufen also nicht! Sie müssen
erst von Hand in der Systemsteuerung/Netzwerk "Hinzufügen" anklicken, dann
"Protokoll" und beim "Hersteller: Microsoft" das "IPX-Netzwerk" auswählen und
installieren.
• Wenn der Rechnerstart bei Windows 98 nun auf einmal viel länger dauert, so
liegt das daran, dass Windows 98 standardmäßig das "TCP/IP"-Protokoll instal-
liert.
Dabei ist als Grundeinstellung die Option eingestellt "IP-Adresse automatisch
beziehen". Sie finden diese unter "Systemsteuerung"/"Netzwerk" und dann im
Fenster "Die folgenden Netzwerkkomponenten sind installiert:". Wählen Sie hier
"TCP/IP-> xxxx" (xxxx steht für den Namen der Netzwerkkarte). Nach einem
Mausklick auf "Eigenschaften" erscheint die o.g. Option.
Klicken Sie auf "IP-Adresse festlegen" und geben Sie z.B. eine fiktive IP-Adresse
ein, z.B. 1.1.1.1, den zweiten PC stellen Sie auf 1.1.1.2 ein, usw. usw.
• Entfernen Sie den USB-Netzwerkadapter sicherheitshalber nur bei ausgeschal-
tetem PC/Notebook. Durch geöffnete Dateien (wenn z.B. ein anderer PC auf Ihren
PC/Notebook zugreift) könnte es zu Datenverlust kommen.
• Falls der USB-Netzwerkadapter an einem USB-Hub nicht korrekt funktioniert, so
schließen Sie ihn versuchsweise direkt an Ihrem PC an.

Safety instructions
Any claims for guarantee will become invalid in the event of damage
that results from the non-observance of the operating manual.

The USB plug (type A) is on one side of the USB network adapter and a small flap
which you can readily open by a fingernail can be recognized on the other (the flap
can be set up by abt. 40°).
Once is is set up it is necessary to correctly insert the RJ45 plug here. The clip at
one side of the RJ45 plug is at top here whereas the contacts of the RJ45 plug are
located towards the contact springs which can be seen in the network adapter.
Insert the RJ45 plug at an angle of about 10° and cautiously click it in towards the
top.
Take care not to insert the plug by force. Any guarantee claims will become invalid
if the plug breaks.
If you wish to separate the RJ45 plug from the bush cautiously press down the clip
of the RJ45 plug, move downwards the RJ45 plug again to an angle of 10° and pull
it out cautiously and slowly.
Attention! Do not exert any excessive force while inserting and
disconnecting the RJ45 plug. A larger and more massive bush cannot
be used because of the plug design.
Do not tilt the plug and insert it only with its correct side.
Also during the operation of the product, take care that the bush and
the RJ45 never get subjected to any mechanical load.
Close the flap if the USB network adapter is not needed or is trans-
ported.
How to connect the adapter
Start your operating system and wait until it is completely charged.
Connect the adapter to a RJ45 cable via the small specialty bush. Then, push the
adapter into a USB bush of your PC or USB hub.
How to install the driver
Windows will automatically identify the USB network adapter. Insert the drive
diskette in the diskette drive of your PC and follow all instructions given by Windows.
Windows 9x/ME will then possibly need its installation CD to be able to install more
network components.
Recommendations & advice
• If you have a network or system administrator of your own for your network (e.g.
in a large-size company) allow IT to carry out the connections and wiring, do not
connect the USB network adapter to the PC and network.
• The data transfer rate of 10 and 100 megabits per second is not achieved nor-

mally. Errors in transfer, accesses by several computers at a time, accesses to
the hard disk (read on one computer, write on the other), etc. will cut down this
theoretical value. In addition, a maximum of 12 megabits is theoretically possi-

ble via USB1.1. In practice, the effective data transfer rates which can be achie-

ved are about 800 kilobytes / 1 megabyte.
• For Windows 95/98, it might take some time until the computers can be seen in
the network. Once you have turned on the computers and Windows 95/98 has
been charged in all computers after a few seconds you may not get an immedi-
ate access to a further computer, as a rule. Clicking onto "network environ-
ment", for example, may cause a message to arise "The network cannot be
searched". Under certain circumstances, it might take up to two minutes until
more computers appear. The "data file and printer release" has to be activated
to release drive units and directories for other computers. For example, you will
find them under "network" in the system control. As the option says already you
may now release your printer for the other computers in the network as well, i.e.
you need not connect a printer to each PC or even re-copy the data files for each
diskette between the computers in order to print them out.
• The IPX network protocol which is so popular and simple will not be installed in
Windows 98. Games that need an IPX protocol will not run consequently. You
have to click by hand onto "Add" in the system control/network, then onto
"Protocol", and to select and install the "IPX network" at "Manufacturer:
Microsoft".
• Now, if the computer start-up is now taking much more time in Windows 98 the
reason is that Windows 98 installs the "TCP/IP protocol" as a standard.
The option which is adjusted here as a basic setting is "Obtain IP address auto-
matically". You will find it under "System control/Network" and, then, in the win-
dow "The following network components are installed:". Select "TCP/IP-> xxxx"
here (xxxx is for the name of the network card). The above mentioned option will
appear following a mouse click of "Features".
Click onto " Create IP address" and input a fictitious IP address, for example,
which can be 1.1.1.1., set the second PC to 1.1.1.2, etc, etc.
• For reasons of safety, remove the USB network adapter only when the PC/note-
book is OFF. Data could get lost because of open data files (for example, if anot-
her PC accesses your PC/notebook).
• If the USB network adapter does not correctly function on a USB hub connect it
directly to your PC by way of trial.
