• To give other computers access to drives and directories the "File and Print Sha-
ring..." must be activated. You will find this option e.g., by clicking on the Network
icon in your Control Panel screen. This option enables you to make your printer
available for other computers connected to the network i.e., you will not have to
connect a printer to each PC or transfer files between computers by copying them
on floppy disks to print them.
• The popular and easy-to-use IPX network protocol is not installed under Windows
98/ME. Games requiring an IPX protocol will not run! First you must click "Add" in
Control Panel/Network, then click "Protocol" and in the "Manufacturers" box click
"Microsoft" select and install the "IPX network".
• If starting your computer under Windows 98 (does not apply to 98SE and ME)
takes much longer now this is due to the fact that Windows installs the "TCP/IP
protocol" by default.
The option "Obtain an IP address automatically" is installed as default setting. You
will find it under "Control Panel/Network" and then in the window "The following
network components are installed". Select here "TCP/IP-> UH510" (this name of
the USB adapter may change). After click on "Properties" this option appears.
Click "Specify an IP address" and enter a fictive address e.g., 192.168.0.1, set the
second PC to 192.168.0.2, etc. The first three digits must be identical on all compu-
ters. You should not change "Subnet-Mask" i.e. must be identical on all computers.
b) General
• If a device on the USB adapter does not work, this could be due to fact that the dri-
ver e.g., tries to access an interface directly (for example the driver software of a
parallel port scanner).
Connect such devices directly to your PC and not to the USB adapter.
• In case of a PS/2 mouse or a PS/2 keyboard their drives can cause problems. If
e.g, the mouse or keyboard functions correctly if connected directly to the PC and
not on the USB adapter you must de-install the mouse or keyboard drivers.
• The devices connected to the USB adapter share the data rate of the USB port.
Thus if you are printing and simultaneously accessing the network via the USB
adapter, both the print process and the network operations will slow down.
In very few cases (depends on the driver) it may happen that the two processes
interfere with each other, so could for example a printing action be aborted.
• Do not unplug the USB adapter while your PC is running.
Files opened via the network could be damaged.

L'utilisation d'adaptateurs dans les écoles, les centres de formation professionnelle
ou les ateliers pour handicapés ou de personnes privées, doit être surveillée par du
personnel qualifié.
Des mesures de protection contre le chargement électrostatique sont à prendre
avant tout branchement (par ex. ruban de mise à la terre, mise d'un tapis isolant sous
le produit etc.)
Soyez prudent lors du maniement du produit – chocs, coups et chutes même d'une
faible hauteur provoquent un endommagement.
5. Configuration
a)Généralités, branchement sur secteur (9) et au PC (8)
Branchez la fiche d'alimentation en courant (9) par l'intermédiaire du transforma-
teur joint à une prise de courant homologuée. Reliez ensuite le port USB (8) avec
un port USB de votre PC
