Hard disk cloning
• The cloning function copies the files of the hard disk inserted in slot HDD1 to the hard disk in slot HDD2.
"Cloning" not only means the copying of the existing files, but also "identity". From here on, hard disks are
classified as master hard disk (in slot HDD1) and clone hard disk (in slot HDD2).
Hard disk capacities:
The clone hard disk must have at least the same capacity as the master hard disk.
All data on the clone hard disk are overwritten through the cloning process.
Identifying hard disks:
Note that both hard disks have the same identity after the cloning has been completed. Now,
when connecting both hard disks to the same motherboard, there is an identity conflict and only
the hard disk in slot HDD1 will show up as a drive. The conflict can be resolved by switching the
hard disk to "online" in "Disc Management". For this, refer to the help section of your OS.
If the clone hard disk has a larger capacity than the master hard disk, the free storage space can
later be used as an additional partition.
1. The USB cable is not required for cloning. Disconnect it from the product.
2. Put two hard disks into the slots. Turn the product on using the on/off switch ON•.
3. Press and hold the button Clone (9) for 4 seconds. The control LED Power and the control LEDs Link,
HDD1 and HDD2 start flashing in orange. Each control LED represents a 25 % increment of the cloning
process. Once the respective percentage is reached, the corresponding control LED stays on continuously.
4. When the cloning is completed, all control LEDs flash synchronously in orange. If the cloning process
cannot be completed, or if an error has occurred, the control LED HDD2 will flash or shine red. See table
"LED control indicators explained".

6. Tips and notes

• A USB 3.0 connection cannot be guaranteed for Macintosh and Linux computers.
• The docking station supports plug & play and hot-swapping (device drivers are recognised automatically
and devices can be removed from the PC while the operating system is running).
• USB 3.0 devices are downwardly compatible. This means that the enclosure with the installed hard disk
drive also functions on conventional USB 2.0/1.1 ports – but then only at the maximum USB 2.0/1.1 speed.
• You should, however, take into account that data may be corrupted or the operating system may crash if
the connection cable is disconnected while data are being transferred (or the cabinet is switched off or the
power unit is disconnected).
• Always treat hard disks with care. Impacts during operation (also for a few seconds after switching off) may
cause the write/read head to touch the magnetic disk, which destroys the hard disk.
• When connecting the hard drive for the first time, it may take up to one minute for it to be recognised. The
time may vary depending on operating system and hardware used.
• A new hard disk has to be partitioned and formatted before it can be used and displayed e.g in the
Windows® file manager.
• With Windows® 7, navigate in the Control Panel to "System and Security". Click on "Administrative Tools"
and then on "Create and format hard disk partitions".
• There, select the correct hard drive and create a new partition. Afterwards, the hard drive needs to be
formatted.
• Hard disk drives for Macintosh computers use a different file system than Microsoft Windows®. The native
HFS+ file system for Macintosh is not compatible with Windows® without conversion. If the hard disk drive
is to be used for both operating systems, format the hard disk drive with a file format that is compatible with
both operating systems (e.g., FAT32).

• Note that certain operating systems do not support external storage drives larger than 2 TB, namely
Windows® versions lower than XP 64 bit (including XP 32 bit). For more information on the support for your
operating system, please contact the customer service of the operating system manufacturer.
• If you are not sure about the formatting procedure, contact a specialised computer retailer.
7. Cleaning
• Do not immerse the product in water or other liquids.
• Before cleaning, disconnect the product from the computer and the power supply (disconnect power supply unit).
• Use a clean, dry soft cloth for cleaning. Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents as these may result in
discoloration of the housing.
