Operation
When not in use, always keep the docking station closed to prevent dust entering the
station. For this, bring the rotary control switch on the side of the docking station into
the central position.
1.
Ensure the on/off switch on the rear side of the docking station is set to off (black side of the rocker
switch).
2.
Connect the mains cable to the docking station. Insert the mains plug into the wall outlet.
3.
Connect the USB 3.0 cable to the docking station and the USB plug to a free USB port on your PC.
4.
Using the rotary control switch, select the required hard disk size (2.5" (6.35 cm), or 3.5" (8.89 cm)). First,
turn the rotary control switch to the right or the left as far as it will go to fully open the hard drive bay.
5.
Align the SATA port of your hard disk to the SATA plug inside the docking station and then plug the hard
disk in.
6.
Hold the hard disk with one hand and turn the rotary control switch towards the central position using the
other hand to lock the hard disk.
7.
Set the on/off switch on the rear side of the docking station to on (rocker switch side marked white).
8.
The blue LED on the front of the docking station lights up when the device is operational. The blue LED
flashes when data is being transferred.
9.
After use, turn the docking station off using the on/off switch. Wait 30 seconds before removing the hard
disk.
10.
When the product will not be used for longer periods of time, unplug the mains plug from the wall outlet and
disconnect the USB plug from your computer.

Tips and notes
•
USB 3.0 devices are backwards compatible. This means that the hard disk drive can also function with
conventional USB 2.0/1.1 ports, but then only at the maximum USB 2.0/1.1 speed.
•
You should, however, take into account that data may be corrupted or the operating system may crash if
the connection cable is disconnected while data are being transferred (or the cabinet is switched off or the
power unit is disconnected).
•
Always treat hard disks with care. Impacts during operation (also for a few seconds after switching off) may
cause the write/read head to touch the magnetic disk, which destroys the hard disk.
•
When connecting the hard drive for the first time, it may take up to one minute for it to be recognised. The
time may vary depending on operating system and hardware used.
•
A new hard disk has to be partitioned and formatted before it can be used and displayed e.g in the
Windows® file manager.
•
With Windows® 7, navigate in the Control Panel to "System and Security". Click on "Administrative Tools"
and then on "Create and format hard disk partitions".
Version 11/11
•
There, select the correct hard drive and create a new partition. Afterwards, the hard drive needs to be
formatted.
6.
Cleaning
•
Before cleaning, disconnect the product from the network.
•
Use a clean, dry soft cloth for cleaning. Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents as these may result in
discoloration of the housing.
7.
Disposal
