DCF signal reception
The table clock has what is known as a DCF function, i.e. a radio signal
(DCF77 signal) is received and this automatically synchronises the time.
This means that the clock displays a very accurate time. The DCF sig-
nal is transmitted by the "Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt" (The
German Federal Physical Technical Agency). The transmitter is located
in Mainflingen, near Frankfurt am Main. The DCF signal is transmitted
continuously and has an approximate range of between 1,500 km and
2,000 km (restricted). If the table clock is in range of the DCF signal, it
sets the time and date automatically.
For more information on the subject of DCF reception, see the relevant
Internet pages.
Please observe the following information to ensure a correct reception of the
DCF radio signal.
The radio signal reception of the device can be impaired by sources of interfe-
rence, such as computers, mobile phones, wireless phones, TV sets, powerful
motors, etc. Place the device at a considerable distance (1.5 to 2m) from such
sources of interference.
Reception is also negatively affected by reinforced concrete walls and other
materials that block radio waves.

Experience has shown that reception is best in the vicinity of windows and at
night (less interference).
The quality of reception depends on the position of the device relative to the DCF
transmitter. If you do not have any reception, experiment a little with the posi-
tioning of the clock.
Setup
Take care not to place the device in direct sunlight and protect it from vibration,
dust, heat, cold, and moisture.
Place the table clock on a stable surface and ensure a safe stand. If the clock
falls down, it might injure persons or damage the clock or the floor. Place the
device on a level and horizontal surface. Do not place the device on valuable
furniture without suitable protection.
Do not place the device near sources of heat, such as radiators.
Inserting/changing the batteries
Make sure that the polarity is correct when inserting the batteries (pay atten-
tion to plus and minus!).
Keep batteries out of the reach of children. Do not leave batteries lying around.
Pets or small children might swallow them. Mortal danger! If swallowed, con-
sult a doctor immediately.
Batteries may not be shorted, opened or thrown into fire. Batteries must not be
recharged. (Danger of explosion!)
Only use new batteries of the right size and the recommended type. Do not mix
old and new batteries. Chemical liquids may leak out of overaged or spent bat-
teries and damage the device. For this reason, remove the batteries when you
do not use the device for a longer period (a month or more).
Leaking or damaged batteries can cause burns if they come into contact with
the skin. You should therefore wear suitable protective gloves.
The battery compartment cover is located on the underside of the table clock. Remove the cover of
the battery compartment.
Place two new baby batteries (type C) with the poles in the correct direction. The correct polarity (plus
and minus) can be seen on the labelling for the battery compartment.
Close the battery compartment by putting on the battery compartment cover and sliding it closed until
it snaps into place.
Use high-quality alkaline batteries to achieve as long a period of operation as possible.
The use of rechargeable batteries is not recommended, as their lower voltage and capa-
city reduces the service life.
The display appears after the batteries are inserted. Press the RESET button with a pointed object,
e.g. a toothpick.
The batteries need to be changed when the display contrast fades or the display loses brightness.
Initial operation
Before the first use, remove the protective foil that protects the display during transit.
DCF reception
• After you have inserted the batteries, the device automatically attempts to receive the DCF signal.
• A radio tower symbol
(signifying that the device is carrying out a DCF reception attempt)
appears in the display.
Do not press any buttons whilst the device is attempting to receive the DCF signal as this
interrupts the reception attempt. Avoid moving the table clock during the reception
attempt as this negatively affects reception.
• As a rule, the signal will be successfully received within 10 minutes; the time this takes depends
on the strength of the DCF signal.
• Once the signal is received, there is a short beep and the radio tower symbol
continuously. The „OK" symbol
is also displayed.
• If the reception attempt fails, the device automatically restarts the attempt every hour. The device
continues to repeat the attempt until the DCF signal is successfully received
• Once the DCF signal has been successfully received, the DCF table clock automatically repeats the
reception attempt eight times a day and updates the time.
The radio tower symbol and the OK symbol
• A blinking radio tower signal means that the table clock is currently attempting to receive a signal.
• If the radio tower symbol appears on the display as a steady image (not blinking), then the device
has successfully received the DCF signal.
• The „waves" above the radio tower symbol represent the strength of the DCF signal. The more
„waves" appear, the stronger the signal.
• The OK symbol
appears if the last DCF reception attempt was successful.
• If the radio tower symbol
is displayed without waves and without the OK symbol
device was not able to receive the DCF signal and the last attempt failed. This can be due to envi-
ronmental factors, such as bad weather.
Manually triggering DCF reception
It is possible to trigger DCF reception manually by pressing the WAVE button. As soon as the button
is pressed, the device starts a reception attempt.
The radio control tower
appears as a blinking symbol on the display.
